Hedgehogs (wild)🦔, knitting/spinning 🧶, Iceland🇮🇸 & volcanoes🌋, eternally curious hermit, trying to navigate my way through life without any clue how. Will always say oh hai to a cat🐈‍⬛🐈.
Live in the UK 🇬🇧.
She/her or they/them is fine too.
After being away from home for 7 weeks, #notmycat has realised I’m back after several days and moved herself back in again.

So much to do and so little time, also not really enough energy either. Currently drinking last coffee of the day to try and get through another afternoon of Doing Stuff. It will be worth it in the long run, it’s just painful now in SO many ways.

Also, things are a bit shit right now. I can’t really say more because it involves others but also do not appreciate my heating giving up the ghost (it’s limping along for a couple of weeks more I hope) & huge upheaval to get sorted. Did not need this. At all.

It’s pancake day in the UK so I made some. They were from an Icelandic recipe and also delicious.

How I’m doing with the Icelandic 🇮🇸 lopi sweater. The yoke pattern is done, most of the body knit 🧶 (a bit more to go and the ribbing) but I switched to the arms before I go back to the body. Had concerns about yarn amounts remaining but these seem to have been unfounded I think.

This wind is unpleasant. My house 🏠 is freezing. So are my feet. We could learn a lot from Nordic countries on staying warm in cold windy winters I feel.

It is so windy, has been all night, big gusts. My weather app says gusts strong enough for there to be a yellow warning in place & yet… nothing. So fed up with the UK Met Office, I know weather is hard but looking at wxcharts.com even I can see it. I’m not a meteorologist so how is that ok? Ugh.😤

Not what you expect from a reputable plant company. Wasn’t damaged in transit, the cellophane ‘gift wrapping’ had trapped many of the leaves, cutting them off on the rim of the pot, and looked like it had something dropped n the centre that crushed all the rest except that one part.

Socks 🧦 got ripped back to before the heels and re-knit with a gusset to help with the fit. I am NOT starting the ribbing as insanely early as last time. It is fast knitting and hopefully be done by Christmas and then it is ICELANDIC SWEATER CAST-ON TIME 🧶🇮🇸 and yes I *am* excited about this 😂

Still not cast on any of the Icelandic yarn because of these. It’s a pair of socks (just in case you’re a non-knitter) and the yarn is lovely, as are German short-rows.
I started the cuff sooner than I should & 2x2 ribbing is SO SLOW - but I knit too much of it to rip back and re-knit. Ugh.

More knitting 🧶 content
This is the other sweater yarn (also Icelandic🇮🇸!) - Ístex Fjallalopi for a very beautiful sweater design called Góa. The ball of green is the one from the other shipment now with these. Love the colours and yes that’s black for the main part of the sweater!

And this is the reveal… Icelandic yarn 🧶, from Iceland 🇮🇸
I had to sniff it as I unpacked and it smells slightly of sheep, but much more of crisp snowy winter air from a mountain 🏔️ or glacier - just amazing!
Also had a lovely email exchange with the shop using my rudimentary Icelandic (am learning).

A sneak peek of a very exciting parcel that came yesterday from Iceland 🇮🇸
I’ve already opened it but will reveal more later, these might hold a clue though… 🧶🏔️🐏❄️💨

Finally got the crockpot on for overnight chilli con carne without the chilli. Cooking a big batch to split with my parents (hence no chilli) while electric is cheaper at night. No photo of the before, maybe an after in the morning. I’ll be adding chilli to mine once theirs is portioned out ;-)

Considering changing electric tariff away from Octopus Agile to tracker. The last few weeks have been more miss than hit for agile being better value, even with load shifting as much as I can. Tracker would give me no peak period too. Agile is more expensive either side of peak hrs these days too.

Oh! Started snowing about an hour and a half ago. Am surprised it’s actually not just melting on contact with the ground and stuff. Winter is coming? I think it’s here… can’t remember the last time we had snow in November.

This lovely lady does so much for our british wildlife, and creates amazing things to help fund that work & keep a roof over her head.
Asking for a retwoot (not sure of correct term on here) is wincey I know, but my Etsy shop is my living atm due to wonky mental health so I'd be mega grateful for a small boost.

There is the possibility of snow tonight/tomorrow for me, and I am very happy to see that @uksnowmap.com has made it over to bluesky! ❄️❄️❄️ Even if I get none, I can watch where it is for others, which is almost as much fun :-)

Very interesting and makes me glad I have looked to support my bumblebees and solitary bees. Planting shrubby winter honeysuckle is the best thing I ever did for the bumbles. It’s their lifeline from December to March.
Please #repost/#share for the #bees.🙏🏼🐝

This matters.

So let’s talk about #honeybees in the context of ‘Saving the Bees’.
Let’s cut the bull and cut to the chase as there’s way too much confusion/misinformation out there which is a hinderance to, and detrimental to, genuine bee saving.

Current knitting project - pair of socks for me, two at a time, toe up, on circulars. I’m trying a German short row heel and after an initial ‘halp I am lost and don’t know where I am’ halfway through the first heel, I’m liking this method a lot. Much easier than wrap and turn short rows.

Far too late to bed tonight, trying to unwind with my kindle but it was flat and now charging. Undersea light thingy isn’t really making me sleepy. But at least I know my parents have mealplan and groceries ordered for next week. Getting old sucks & I don’t look forward to this being me eventually.

This is the chief home invader. She only has 3 legs, 1 disappeared earlier this year (a bad break I assume). It doesn’t stop her doing anything. And that is my bed that she occupies every single day I’m here. She wants to live with me but she has a home elsewhere so she doesn’t get fed here.

Well, I’m back again. I’m hoping to reconnect with more friends here but as the influx grows so it becomes harder to find them. Sadly I am now catless for the first time in over 30 years but I have a visiting cat (3 actually) who make sure I don’t *feel* catless on a daily basis.
