Before it was banned for being woke, we used to talk a lot about the social determinants of health.

@niniandthebrain.bsky.social has a phenomenal summary of how these factors influence health and why comparisons to Europe miss the point.

For 381 days, 40,000 Black residents refused to ride segregated buses. They walked miles in the heat and cold, organized carpools, and supported Black-owned cab services. They sacrificed comfort and safety to fight for dignity and justice—and they won.

Americans work a lifetime to earn the right to retire with dignity.

Instead of protecting that right, Republicans are focused on undermining workers and citing supposed "harm" done to massive corporations. They must stop going after retirement benefits. Our seniors deserve better.

Over $38 billion in government subsidies while Black workers still face healthcare inequities. Even with insurance, Black patients are skipped, delayed, and underserved.

Every dollar to billionaires is a dollar not spent on our communities.

This committee has zero credibility and the process for this vote was chaotic.

It might be easy to find things like this merely petty or superficial, but that would be a mistake. Demeaning, erasing or eliminating celebrations or acknowledgments of Black America is straight from Redemption playbook, and is intended to reinforce the racial hierarchy and signal its reinstatement.
