The Python Software Foundation was recommended for a $1.5M grant from the National Science Foundation. The terms of the award said PSF could not work on DEI, whether or not the grant funding was used for it.

PSF therefore declined the funding.

Science suffers, but commitment to core values remains

We live in a fundamentally different atmosphere/ocean system thanks to fossil fuel-caused climate change. It’s time to name it explicitly and call out the actors that helped to make this storm incredibly dangerous.
UCS climate scientist @marc-alessi.bsky.social says: “The role climate change has played in making Hurricane Melissa incredibly dangerous is undeniable.”

So proud to share this new paper from my research group in collaboration with NIST scientists during the CASA Field Study! We look at particle transport in a house and compare 3 models: a box model, an empirical model, and CONTAM.

i got pushed by docs into thinking my chronic migraines were just headaches from stress for five years - they were actually the primary manifestation of a tumor in my head. it took me a full year and half of fighting for myself to actually get the treatment i needed. it instantly cured me.
And so I anchored — I anchored on the first diagnosis I received. Even though that diagnosis was wrong. I'm sharing this experience not for sympathy or attention, but in the hope that it may be a useful cautionary tale. Do not make my mistake.

A lot of comments on Mars rovers or Moon landings, but it's important to remember that the planet NASA studies most is Earth. This is less about cutting flashy things like moonwalks and more about keeping communities in the dark on climate, weather, agriculture, pollution, natural hazards, and more.
