State Sen. Justin Eichorn, R-Grand Rapids, was arrested Monday for allegedly soliciting a minor for prostitution. The Bloomington Police Department said detectives communicated with Eichorn “who thought he was talking to a 16-year-old female” and detectives then arranged a meetup on Monday.

Holy crap. The DOJ is arguing that the President can unilaterally deport anyone he wants without ANY statutory authority, just on his inherent authority as President over national security.

That is a terrifying claim to make and not one that has ever been recognized before in US history.

NEW: White House says the arrest and deportation of student activist & legal US resident, Mahmoud Khalil, is a blueprint for more.

The final line here is chilling. The White House specifically says Khalil was not breaking the law.

No evidence, no due process, no crime. He was just disappeared.
Indeed, a White House official told The Free Press that the basis for targeting Khalil is being used as a blueprint for investigations against other students. Khalil is a "threat to the foreign policy and national security interests of the United States," said the official, noting that this calculation was the driving force behind the arrest. "The allegation here is not that he was breaking the law," said the official.

Greer is an associate at Dratel & Lewis and issues this statement: Last night ICE agents wrongfully arrested Mahmoud Khalil, claiming his student visa was revoked -- even though Mahmoud is legal permanent resident (green card) and not in the U.S. on a student visa. Confronted with that fact, the ICE agents detained him anyway. Overnight we filed a habeas corpus petition on Mahmoud's behalf challenging the validity of his arrest and detention. Currently we do not know Mahmoud's precise whereabouts. Initially we were informed this morning that he had been transferred to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey. However, when his wife -- a U.S. citizen who is eight months' pregnant and was threatened with arrest as well by the ICE agents last night -- tried to visit him there today, she was told he is not detained there. We have subsequently received reports that Mahmoud may s be transferred as far away as Louisiana. We will vigorously be pursuing Mahmoud's rights in court, and will continue our efforts to right this terrible and inexcusable - and calculated - wrong committed against him. ICE's arrest and detention of Mahmoud follows the U.S. government's open repression of student activism and political speech, specifically targeting students at Columbia University for criticism of Israel's assault on Gaza. The U.S. government has made clear that they will use immigration enforcement as a tool to suppress that speech. Many individuals and organizations have expressed support for Mahmoud and outrage at the government's conduct, and have offered their assistance in the legal proceedings. Mahmoud greatly appreciates all of that support, as do we.

Finally wrote up my personal eval for testing the reasoning abilities of LLMs. To no's surprise, Deepseek R1 comes out on top.
For the one's I tested: R1 > o1/Opus/Gemini Adv 2.0 Exp/Grok 2 > Llama 3.3 70b Instruct > Gemini 1.5 DR.

Our world is increasingly complex and I suspect AI has the potential to reduce that complexity but only if we can prevent people from abusing it. Unfortunately, there is a lot of money to be made in AI that abuses our systems.
