Sigh. In Finland conscription actually has an equality-boosting effect because all male citizens have to do it and the treatment is the same for everyone, regardless of their family’s wealth.
Also a big legal issue in Finland is whether conscript can be sent abroad (so far the answer is no).

Been reading what Finland’s most experienced Russia hands - diplomats, soldiers, scholars - have been writing about Russia lately. One repeated and important insight that struck me is this:
