Consumable Text Units will not ever replace books — whether fiction or nonfiction, literary, genre, whatever — that are written with some kind of love. They can’t. It’s goofery.

But this connects to the whole way a certain kind of person now talks about books, like they are just Consumable Text Units. These are the people who tell you every book could be a blog post. These are the people who can be asked what their favorite book is and they will say “Keto For Closers.”

What they’ve invented here is a way to remove every skitch of possible satisfaction and barf out something that will still not make any money. And the more of these there are, the more you can be sure none of them will make money. It’s a deadweight loss—creating Rube Goldberg machine.
