Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Another regular reminder to parents whose kids have an IEP, 504, or any type of disability or accommodation… republicans think your kids don’t deserve to have access to an education. The DOE was the entity protecting those kids.

Every time I see conservative fearmongering about how dangerous the NYC subway is, I feel the need to defend it. I grew up in Ohio. It’s cars that are dangerous. It’s car accidents that are terrifyingly common. I’m not being dramatic when I say the subway is one of the best parts of my life now.

When I worked my 1st job as a reporter for a chain of small newspapers at 22, a United Way rep asked me out to breakfast to talk about local programs. They grabbed the check before I could.
My colleagues made me feel so bad and corrupt for accepting that $3 fruit salad.
