Just read an article about jellyfish migrating north into warmer waters; the theory that they’re being driven by climate change is apparently wrong.

Turns out they were just heading north to DC to hang out with the platonic ideal of spinelessness, @schumer.senate.gov and the @democrats.org caucus

Americans know our economy is rigged.

Billionaires become richer while working people can’t afford health care, housing & food.

If Trump wants my vote to fund the government, he must not raise health care premiums by 75% for 20 million people or throw millions off health care.

Every person of faith who voted for this should be ashamed.
“I feel it is my duty, my responsibility, as a Baptist minister and as someone who has read the words of Jesus and tries to follow the way of Jesus to offer a litany of condemnation — condemnation of making the poor be poorer as the rich grow wealthy.” -Rev. @raushenbush.bsky.social

Well worth the read.
At this time of day on July 2, I’m drawn to think of the several thousand US troops spread out in an ever thinning line along Culp’s Hill, on the US right. All afternoon, units have been pulled from this position to bolster the left flank - Little Round Top, the Wheatfield, and Cemetery Ridge

I have been homeless, I have been unable to work, and I have felt what it is like to live with a chronic condition that, through no fault of your own, will prevent you from achieving your ambitions. Impotent ambition and true powerlessness are some of the worst feelings in the world.

Recession is inevitable at this point- my biggest question is if the world is going to be able to simply move on without us while we get our house in order.

Trump's reconciliation bill is the most dangerous bill I have seen in my time in Congress.

– 17 million lose health care
– 20% cut to food aid for families
– Adds more to the debt than any bill in history
– Energy bills spike 30%
– Guts US clean energy and cedes our edge to China

Beyond this, you know who is most likely to vote to screw corrupt machine interests out of sheer contrariness? New Yorkers who have been getting screwed for way too long.

Tit for tat.
I really think the attacks on Zohran are going to backfire tremendously with normal people. The appalling racism and Islamophobia will work for people who are racist and bigoted. But the primary vote was a rejection of these tactics, and I don’t believe doubling down will work

A great @rexhuppke.bsky.social piece on how to still be a patriot when your president is a dictator www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...
This July Fourth, my patriotism looks like two middle fingers – and that's OK | Opinion
As America enters the Fourth of July with a president behaving in un-American ways, it's worth wondering what patriotism should look like.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. If we’re getting screwed, it needs to be equally- that way the folks who put Trump in his seat can see just how empty his promises really are.
Republicans are about to decimate Medicaid across the country and their top two Senate leaders are trying to get their states exempted from the cuts at the 11th hour.

This is how they come for anyone they disagree with.

Vote for a democrat- any democrat. There are a lot of issues with the Democratic Party, and yea they helped put us here. But they are also the only ones who can unfuck this.
Anyone still quibbling that this isn't fascism?
The White House has ordered the US Dept. of Justice to prioritize denaturalization: voiding the citizenship of US citizens.

Who will it denaturalize? "Any" case that it "determines to be sufficiently important".

Point 10 leaves the criteria opaque and arbitrary.

We need better public transit and more of it, not a turnpike expansion! For $11 billion we could upgrade and extend an awful lot of train service, as well as fund citibikes in major metros and high density villages.
We could have trolley cars, more buses, and light rail expansions.
NJ Transit Authority is accepting comments now over an $11 billion plan to expand the NJ Turnpike between Newark and Jersey City. This project will induce MORE traffic and pollution while leaving public transit underfunded. Comment by 7/3 to oppose!

NEW: Tucked inside the GOP mega-bill is an excise tax for solar and wind.

And Republicans say they have no idea who put this provision in, or why.

"I don't know where it came from," Senate Budget Chair Lindsey Graham, who released the bill, tells NBC News.
