I hope this doesn't mean Rad Power Bikes is even more trouble. Some of their recent bikes are interesting and I like the additional safety steps they have taken with their batteries.

1/2 If you use the Journals plugin (a flexible way to manage calendars and daily notes) and used a hotkey to open today's daily note, that command went away with v2.

But there's a solution. See the next post in the thread.

Ukraine did not choose this war—it was forced upon them by Russia's invasion. No country should be expected to bargain away its land and people in the name of so-called peace. Ukraine has every right to defend its sovereignty. #StandWithUkraine

If you're trying to raise money to oppose T*mp and M*sk and all the garbage they're doing, DON'T do it by sending me text messages with their faces front-and-center.

I'm trying to avoid seeing and hearing from them, and I'm not giving you money if you make me look at them.

It's disappointing to see Azure Data Studio go away, but it does explain the dearth of updates over the past few months.

I'm find the VS Code extension experience more awkward, so maybe this pushes me to DataGrip from @jetbrains.com.

We’re enjoying some lovely snow in Helena, a nice change given how little has fallen this season.

Even though I like snow, I still try to remember: “If you choose not to find joy in the snow, you will have less joy in your life but the same amount of snow.”

I hope you have plenty of joy in 2025.

Features in modern programming, like `cargo doc --open` in Rust that creates a rich local documentation Web site on the fly from the codebase, would have blown my mind when I started programming professionally in the 1990s.

And yet they seem to be little more than the minimum requirements today.

Today, I learned that JavaScript accepts `new Date("2024-11-31")` as a valid date string and treats it as 2024-12-01.

At least it fails on 2024-11-32.

I learned a fantastic saying from Mandarin.

When you want to say that someone is doing something unnecessary, redundant, or overly complicated when there is a more straightforward way, you can say "脱裤子放屁" (tuō kùzi fàng pì).

In English, this means they're taking off their pants to fart.

Reminder: Alt Text is a disability aid. It is meant to convey the images to people with vision impairments. Describe what the image is. If it’s text, modern phone and desktop OSes let you copy and paste it from an image.

They’re not a place to hide a zinger, or for snark.

Go too far in the enshittification direction and you become Twitter. But go too far in the opposite direction, prioritizing purity over engagement and onboarding, and you become Mastodon.

BlueSky has managed this tradeoff so well. We should still be vigilant, but kudos to a fantastic platform.

The OED's earliest entry for this word is 1892. I thought this would have been in use much earlier.
maquillage [ma-key-AZH]
(n.)
-Makeup or cosmetics.

From French “maquillage” (makeup), from “maquiller” (to apply makeup).

Used in a sentence:
“Myrtle Mudclutch miraculously managed to make millions manufacturing magical mole-mitigating maquillage.”
