thinking about how we've had numerous bike shops close in seattle over the last few years.

increasing material costs. increasing housing costs. increasing commercial rents.

all lead to increasing labor costs.

we need to reverse this in order to meet our climate goals. bigly.
Bike mechanics want the government to recognize the job as a distinct profession and skilled trade.

Right now, they're officially grouped with workers who repair accordions, jukeboxes and the safety valves on pipelines.

A few months ago, a friend visited me in Utrecht. As we biked around to do daily errands, she kept saying, "This is like a dream. This is like a dream."

I do believe all cities the world over to soon come to their senses, limit car movement, and build a dream of safe, abundant streets for people.

One person moving in a multi-ton metal box gets $9,000, and one person moving on an efficient micromobility device gets $225. Electric cars do not solve for congestion, storage, sedentary lifestyle, injury/death due to crashes. The battery in ONE gaint electric SUV could power hundreds of e-bikes.

Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same.
Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change.
