agree here. i'd read all about what a paradise for cyclists paris had become, but my experience was very very different. most roads are v narrow: deliveries block roads. cars cramped so become v aggressive. there are some lucky routes, but cycling is much much better in lyon, frankfurt, even london
Yes, check out Paris
I live here. If you are young and fit, and live in the right area, brilliant

Otherwise, nightmare
Closures allowing oasis of bliss, create gridlock in other streets. Even with only taxis, buses. and delivery vehicles a journey that should take 10’, is often 50

Tonight we open Peter Grimes in Lyon. Chistof Loy's production was so successful at Theater an der Wien that it's getting a second revival in France. It's a very bold, particular take on the piece, with an excellent cast here too. Really worth catching if you can. www.opera-lyon.com/en/programme...

Last week's Wagner recital, or: joy, and risk 🪽

Risk, because @twgfaulkner.bsky.social & I both debuted so much new repertoire : Erda, Marke, Fricka, Wotan, Waltraute, Pogner...

Joy, because the risk paid off and we shared a special evening with a wildly supportive audience in our Wahlheimat 💜

this is tomorrow
This coming Sunday, with @twgfaulkner.bsky.social we get to explore a wonderful selection of Wagner, Verdi, and Strauss-dysfunctional married couple Fricka and Wotan included! And, special delight, we get to debut this programme in our hometown, just outside Frankfurt. We'd love to see you there!
