This morning, we hear from Professor Malcolm Press, VC of Manchester Met about his perspectives of the financial pressures on the sector; that the funding models of the previous decade aren’t coming back and we need to better explain the value of the sector.

A very niche blog post, but I've documented how I connected a weather station, Cumulus MX weather software and Home Assistant with MQTT for anyone else who spends a bit of time trying to do this.

What links an Ecowitt Weather Station, Cumulus MX, and Home Assistant? MQTT
This is absolutely the type of blog post that is written only for those that come behind trying to solve the same problem, and searching the web for help. Or to remind me how I did it. If you don't…

Yesterday I finally scanned the answer sheets from the @niscifest.bsky.social quiz for some checking around calibration for next year, and put the originals in the recyclying.

This is my favourite bit of encouraging peer assessment, from another table marking, @profvicsimms.bsky.social.

It's only with easyJet that I have recently found myself the victim of an airline overselling flights - but the most striking thing is how their customer service doesn't seem to regard it as their problem in the slightest. There is absolutely no offer to help.

Having read The Three-Body Problem I have decided that the easiest way to defend oneself from a #sophon (a proton with extras) is to rub a balloon on your head and use the static charge to deflect it. Or do you have a better idea?

Merry Christmas folks. I appreciate this isn't an easy time for everyone or at least it can be complicated. So I hope you are well and if today is hard my thoughts are with you.

It’s #InternationalMensDay and a shout out to all the men trying to make life better for others. A shout out to those men who have been like the brothers I never had. And for those men who are struggling with life right now - a big digital hug.

Hi @profsallybrown.bsky.social, I started to curate a NTFS starter pack last week (based on profile info & colleagues in my network).

I know I’ll have missed folk as they join Bluesky, so please do let me know and I’ll add them.
Very useful thanks Sue. Now how about a list of UK NTFS somebody please?
For those just joining Bluesky and interested in Higher Education, I have created a list of educators I follow which may be helpful to look at to expand your own network.
