I used to be 5 foot but I’m shrinking! I’ve just had my kitchen remodelled to mean that I can reach everything! Fabulous! You lose a bit of cupboard space but it makes it manageable
When we had a kitchen fitted, we did get the counter raised by an inch, and it caused no end of problems because all the units were too short. Behold the piece of MDF I had to order when I finally realised why the dishwasher kept rocking back and forth.

A 15 year old relatives tells me sexism and misogyny from fellow pupils at school is appalling
Even by my low expectations for Kemi Badenoch ‘violence against women and girls is something done by immigrants and nobody else’ has shocked me.
Dog-whistle and factually incorrect. Ladies, raise your hand if you were sexually assaulted by a boy at school? I’d wager this or a family member is most women’s first experience of sexual violence

Also have you seen Victoria Mapplebeck’s authoethnographic Bafta winning documentaryMotherboard?
I don’t know this one, is it out in the UK?

BBC. Made by Duck Soup films in Wales. 3 part series about gay men adopting. The boy playing the adoptee should win prizes. But the stand out actor is the birth mother. See what you think

Christmas shopping for those you care about
Karma has given me the gift of a cancelled meeting this afternoon

Now, how can I best waste the time I've just regained?

But you absolutely have to watch Victoria Mapplebeck’s motherboard! It’s a brilliant film! I might be prejudiced but I know the family well
I know I haven't been going to the cinema much but I've only heard of two of these films and there is probably only one of those I might be interested in seeing. Has it just been a boring year film wise, or do I need to get out more? www.theguardian.com/film/ng-inte...

LTHEChat 346: Staying Active as a Researcher After Graduation: Teachers as Knowledge-Builders
Join us on Bluesky with guest Aimie Brennan (@aimiebrennan.bsky.social) on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025 at 20:00 GMT For many educators, research is something we associate with initial teacher education, postgraduate study, or the occasional school-based project that stems from specific policy/reporting requirements. But research shouldn’t end at graduation. In fact, staying curious, reflective, and research-engaged can become one of the most sustaining aspects of a long and fulfilling teaching career.

I always sing along to Bob Marley when making my home made conserves
Pump up the Jam is definitely one of my top 5 songs about fruit preservation methods though admittedly, introducing pneumatics contravenes most health and safety protocols.

I once got searched at Belfast Airport because I was carrying a Christmas pudding wrapped in silver foil and the security staff said on the x-ray in my suitcase. It looked like it could be explosives
Some very useful tips in this thread on the numerous innocent items that can end up looking somewhat suspicious on airport security scans!
Here’s a tip: if you’re travelling with a cowbell and laptop adaptors in hand luggage, don’t put the adaptors inside the cowbell because that looks suspicious.

And an extra tip from my cousin Charlotte - be careful about travelling with a pack of polenta too. Also looks dodgy.
