🏺🗃️ Not sure why this is getting more attention today, but happy to see it shared again!
And thrilled that Yusra will of course be part of our #ExcavatingGarrod project, re-examining archives for new insights on Garrod's work on #Neanderthals, and her collaborations & wider networks with women.
🏺 The first remains of Tabun 1 were recognised by Yusra, a Palestinian woman who had already dug for years with Garrod. Here is Yusra in 1932 with other young women fieldworkers named as Rashidi and Amui Haj, and in 1934 with Dorothy Garrod.

Hey colleagues - the house is literally burning down. NHPA doesn’t have to be repealed if there is no one in the federal offices to turn on the lights. CRM firms won’t be ok. Academia won’t be absorbing folks as NSF grants are ended and universities stop taking grad students.

I'm a federal archeologist. I'm terrified, exhausted, and trying to figure out how to keep afloat after every freakin' executive order.

Dozens of carbon-14 dates suggest the Bronze and Iron Ages were prime times for ‘watery’ corpse deposition. 🏺🧪
People have been dumping corpses into the Thames since at least the Bronze Age, study finds
A new study of human remains dredged from the Thames River reveals that people frequently deposited corpses there in the Bronze and Iron ages.

Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde was nearing the end of her sermon for the inaugural prayer service on Tuesday when she took a breath and looked directly at President Trump.

"I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now," she said. Read more: nyti.ms/40slABn

We sometimes really tend to forget how deep the roots of #history really reach back before its been covered by written records …

As useful as Thomsen's Three-Age system 🏺 is, it also may have added to a disproportionate perception of how loooooong that period we usually sum up as #StoneAge really was ...

One of my uncles went to Woodstock and he told me that he frankly "doesn't remember much." I'm guessing he had a great time.
Happy “Pretend to be a Time Traveler” Day! Anyone wish they could time travel back to Woodstock?

#DYK attendees can share their stories with Bethel Woods thanks to an #NEHgov funded oral history project?

This sounds like a fantastic initiative! The only thing I can think of is the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and how one of the characters went on an excavation.
I'm looking to build a list of fictional archaeology movies that are not Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider, for a thing @somag.bsky.social and I are working on 👀 They can be any genre, and as serious or as cheesy or as B-level as you like, with much or little archaeology (as long as there is some) 🏺

I had the best 8th grade science teacher who had the class reconstruct Otzi the Ice Man's belongings and face. I got to reconstruct the cape and help paint the face. This got me down the archaeology wormhole and I've never resurfaced. #stories #archaeology #career
