He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

I believe this to my core. They're using trans people as a test case to dismantle individual rights in the US.
Trans rights are not the rights of a tiny minority, trans rights are everyone’s rights to self-determination, control of our bodies, and a society where opportunity and aesthetics are not restricted by sex assigned at birth

In all seriousness, this is why centrist Democrats saying we can just surrender to the right on trans issues to defend other issues, in addition to being grossly unfair to trans people, are wrong in a broader sense. Once you concede that, you've conceded the foundational tenet of today's far-right.
