My paper has officially been published in the @pasajournal.bsky.social!

doi.org/10.1017/pasa...
2nd paper was submitted for review last week. Project 3 has started smoothly and it could also produce another paper. I really hope I can get into a graduate program next cycle! 🤞

Took a little bit longer than expected, but the first draft of the paper is done. Revision time!

Hubble Space Telescope images of interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS are out! These were taken 5 hours ago. Plenty of cosmic rays peppering the images, but the comet's coma looks very nice and puffy. Best of luck to the researchers trying to write up papers for this... archive.stsci.edu/proposal_sea... 🔭

Whoa. Three Little Red Dots have now been found in SDSS! arxiv.org/abs/2507.10659

But due to their compact morphology and bizarre colors, they are originally selected as *quasar candidates*, not galaxies! In any event, LRDs are not unique to the high-z universe.

The Discovery of Little Red Dots in the Local Universe: Signatures of Cool Gas Envelopes
JWST observations have revealed a population of high-redshift "little red dots" (LRDs) that challenge conventional AGN models. We report the discovery of three local LRDs at $z = 0.1-0.2$, initially s...

Dr Robertson

My first student to go all the way to a PhD defended today. Dust in VV191, an overlapping galaxy pair.

Made some excellent reddening maps of dust in the foreground spiral galaxy.

It's interesting working with citizen science data...

Looking through the votes on some of these objects makes me realize why the actual Galaxy Zoo project asks for 40 classifications 😅

Getting old projects in order: montage showing some backlit-galaxy systems selected by @galaxyzoo.org volunteers in Hubble Zoo (plus a few serendipitous finds). After detailed analysis, these may help shed light on the cosmic evolution of dust in galaxies. Even the coldest dust shows up this way. 🔭

Another interesting pair in the catalogue—possibly ideal for future dust studies.

SN 2017ghw was detected in the Spiral, suggesting a redshift similar to the central galaxy. But it's unclear if they're interacting; a spectroscopic measurement is needed to confirm.

I'm nearly finished with my new catalogue! It's definitely not perfect but it is a step in the right direction. I look forward to sharing the results in the next few months.

Below are VV 187a and VV 187b, a pair of overlapping spiral galaxies that will be included in my catalogue.

Excited to use these for future classification projects!
My mind is absolutely blown by these stellar halos nearby NGC 4364!

It finally was clear since the past month of being cloudy. It was a birthday miracle.

This is the same object as last time (NGC 7000) but with all three filters (Ha, OIII, and SII) to create a false color SHO image.

This is about 2 and half hours total!

There was a narrow window last night to test out my new Mono camera again. I tried the 6.5nm 1.25'' HA filter this time and the results are great.

The images stacked here are contaminated by some high clouds, so it could be better. I'm happy with it.

This is the Cygnus Wall apart of NGC 7000.

I’m pretty sure all the astronomers already heard this bad news, but idk how many other folks know about this proposal—NASA science would be absolutely GUTTED if this passed. US astronomy & astrophysics would be dead. We can’t let this happen—tell your reps, & your friends!

NASA’s science programs are facing what experts are calling an “extinction-level event” under Trump’s proposed budget.
From climate monitoring to planetary research, entire fields of discovery are on the chopping block.
