Today House Republicans are going to lie, distort reality, insult our communities, and attempt to dehumanize the people of DC— especially our Black and Brown youth.

We are ten toes down for DC. Anyone who tries to say we deserve less doesn't know us.

We need Congress to act immediately to end Trump's occupation and be on the side of DC communities.

We're visiting Senate offices today to tell Senators to end Trump's occupation of the District, stay out of DC's local spending, and block ALL attempts to take away DC's local power. Our full letter:
"September 8, 2025 Dear Members of Congress, Thank you for your service to the people of the United States. Today I am asking you to do everything in your power to end the occupation of Washington DC as swiftly as possible. DC residents and our allies want ICE and all recently reassigned federal law enforcement officers out of DC immediately. We want National Guard members deployed to DC to be sent home, and we want our local police to stop working with federal forces. 80% of DC residents share this view, in opposition to our mayor. Federal forces in DC are showing a clear pattern of racially profiling, harassing, and arresting Black and Brown DC community members. They are armed, sometimes unidentified, and moving in gangs through residential neighborhoods confronting people who are simply at home, driving to work, or doing routine daily activities. Trump’s occupation of DC is an ongoing and increasing danger to DC residents. It is also a direct threat to democracy in the United States. This is an active military takeover of the capital. It is a textbook indicator of backsliding democracy and intensifying authoritarianism. I understand this might come off as alarmist, but in the last 100 years of history the pattern is clear and we are witnessing it now. As someone who has sworn a sacred oath to uphold and protect the U.S. Constitution, you have an obligation to act in this moment. Specifically, I am asking you today to take the following steps: SUPPORT H.R. 5070, "To require Federal law enforcement officers to wear body cameras, and for other purposes." SUPPORT H.R. 5051, "To require members of the Armed Forces performing active service in the District of Columbia in response to an order of the President which relates to crime or civil disturbance in the District of Columbia to participate in a program substantially similar to the Body-Worn Camera Program of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia." "SUPPORT amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act introduced by Del. Norton. SUPPORT Del. Norton’s request to the Secretary of Defense asking for information on the scope, legal parameters, mission, and cost of the National Guard Deployment in DC. SUPPORT H.J. Res. 115, “Terminating the emergency determined by the President." OPPOSE any bill to declare a crime emergency in DC. ENSURE National Guard members leave DC on a clear and swift timeline. In addition to these measures related to the occupation, you can also be in solidarity with DC in during the FY26 budget process, including any Continuing Resolution: OPPOSE the 20 DC-related riders in the House Appropriations bill. ENSURE any Continuing Resolution for FY26 exempts DC government from a federal government shutdown, and grants DC full power to spend our local budget. Finally, reject ALL legislation that attempts to interfere in DC Home Rule. As of September 8, 2025, that means: OPPOSE S. 2686 which would ban DC Council from changing mandatory minimums or sentencing guidelines, lower the age of youth offenders from 24 to 18, and remove judicial discretion in youth sentencing. OPPOSE S. 2687/H.R. 5107 which would repeal the Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act of 2022, or the CLEAN DC Act, from Sen. Cruz and Rep. Clyde, and any other attempts to undo police accountability measures in DC. OPPOSE H.R. 5140 which seeks to lower the age at which a minor may be tried as an adult in DC to 14. OPPOSE H.R. 5143 to allow vehicular pursuit of suspects fleeing in a motor vehicle, making anyone in the city subject to unsafe car chases. OPPOSE H.R. 5125 to eliminate the DC Judicial Nomination Committee, from Rep. Sessions OPPOSE any new laws requiring cash bail in DC including HR. 5016 from Rep. Biggs, and S. 2706." "OPPOSE any attempt to take away power from the DC Office of the Attorney General or replace its elected Attorney General with a presidential appointee as proposed in the DC Attorney General Appointment Reform Act. OPPOSE the repeal of DC’s Incarceration Reduction Amendment Act of 2016 and the Second Chance Amendment of 2022. OPPOSE H.R. 7530, “The DC CRIMES Act of 2024,” from Rep. Donalds. OPPOSE H.R. 5163, to prohibit camping on public property in the District of Columbia by levying fines and jail time, an attack on unhoused persons with no relationship with crime, from Rep. Timmons. OPPOSE the SOAR Improvements Act, which will remove funds from DC Public Schools and reallocate them to a school voucher program. OPPOSE H.R. 5103, to establish a program to “beautify” the city managed by a new “Safe and Beautiful Commission,” from Rep. McGuire. OPPOSE any attempt to undo Sanctuary laws in DC. DC is home to 700,000 people including families, children, seniors, workers, and people of every age, race, ability and faith. These communities are joyful, powerful, and deserve dignity, not armed soldiers, masked agents, disappearances, and violations of their Constitutional rights. I call on you to take action to end this escalating emergency as fast as possible. Thank you for your attention and swift action on this matter."
