This Black History Month, I’m thinking of the amazing, badass Ellen Craft (1826-1891). She was an enslaved woman, daughter of a biracial slave and white master. She was white-passing. To escape, she dressed like a man and travelled north, her enslaved husband William pretending to be her servant.
