Proud member of the theater-kid-to-educator pipeline. Also a fan of plants, books, cooking, and horror movies. She/her/hers.
The two best pieces of relationship advice from high school students this week:
—a good relationship is 60/40, but both people are trying to be the one giving 60
—fight like a scientist, not a lawyer: you’re solving something together, not trying to win

Save the world. Do the dishes.
This reminds me of a post I saw where someone talked about a Buddhist monk coming to their class and writing "Everybody wants to save the world, nobody wants to help Mom with the dishes" on the board. For the most part, we don't need heroes, we need mundane but necessary shit to get done.

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too.

EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them.

I made a lasagna last night that was so good I can’t stop thinking about it. Tragically I forgot to take a picture. Clearly I will just have to make it again soon.

(Me, telling the 6 y.o. about the book I’m reading)
6 y.o.: “ok, but don’t be sad or scared if it gets sad or scary in the middle, cuz lots of books and movies get bad before they get better, but then things turn out ok.”
Me: “they do, right? I’m glad you noticed that!

After resisting desegregation, segregationists in the 1960s transitioned into resisting the diversification of the institution, the school, the company, the neighborhood, the nation. After failing to stop *one* from getting in, they transitioned into stopping *too many* from getting in. . . 1/2

This is true and also if Christianity or indeed theism is not your cup of tea, may I suggest the Unitarian Universalists
There's a mainline protestant church with a woke lady pastor within walking distance of your house. Everyone there will be thrilled to see someone under 50 at service. There's free donuts too.

YOU’RE NOT SLICK, ASSHOLES. Trump's new exec order INTENTIONALLY defines people as male or female from “conception" to sneak in fetal personhood language. Cuz if zygotes are people, who gives a shit what the pregnant person wants? Even if what they want is to STAY ALIVE. https://buff.ly/4axim4w

There is a novel and unsettling kind of heartbreak to how beautiful the sunsets in Los Angeles have been this week.

An incredibly thoughtful thread that everyone should read and think about
I had a walk today and thought about the relationship between civility, discomfort, and abuse.

Some of you know that “civility” is one of my hard “ugh” triggers. This thread will explain why.

If you’re good at internet sleuthing and want to put your skills to work to help wildfire victims you can check for LA county rentals that have suddenly doubled in price, publicly name and shame the agents doing this, and report them to the government because it’s illegal: oag.ca.gov/contact/cons...
