“Someone with a 1-hr car commute needs to earn 40% more to be as happy as someone with a short walk to work. On the other hand, if someone shifts from a long commute to a walk, their happiness increases as much as if they’d fallen in love.” #CityMakingMath

Equalizing electricity prices between residential, commercial, and industrial customers would save households - aka voters - 21% on their electricity bills. Commercial prices would go up 1%. Industrial prices would go up 59% because residential and commercial customers deeply subsidize them today.
7. Residential customers - aka you and me, aka voters - pay 28% more (16.5 c/kWh, 2024 average) than commercial customers (12.9 c/kWh) and 201% more than industrial (8.2 c/kWh). This trend is accelerating: Residential prices rose 27% from 2019-2023, vs. 21% for commercial and 19% for industrial.

So it looks like masonry style layouts are going to be created with display: grid-lanes.

There were a lot of names proposed, and after some polling, this one was pretty heavily favoured.

There were a few others I liked more, but I think it's a good choice.

another manifestation of this is when you criticize the right and somebody tsk tsks "they say the same thing about the left," like, yeah, somebody is lying, are you interested in who? because the answer is easily discoverable
Perfect example of political media operating under the post-truth standard that (1) distorts the facts until the parties look approximately equal, and (2) holds “do MAGA voters care?” as a higher standard than “is it true?” or “is it important for the public to know about this?”
Wild to watch playbook run cover for this particular Trump scandal

Letterheads and signage alone would quickly run the bill upward of $1 billion, with a full overhaul likely rising to double that amount.
Trump’s Insane Pentagon Name-Change Likely to Cost Taxpayers $2 Billion
Changing signage and stationary alone for the Department of Defense would cost at least a billion dollars.

Trump bragged about grappling women by the pu**y & barging into rooms of partially dressed, young pageant contestants. A jury concluded he assaulted E. Jean Carroll in a dressing room. So nothing that’s in the Epstein emails is a surprise. It’s just confirmation.

Someone is working really hard to steal my instagram account, I've gotten dozens of password reset emails over the last couple of days.

My man, just ask nicely, you can have it!

In the age of LLM agents, the intruder is already inside the house. If you're running Claude Code in dangerous mode, a prompt injection attack is one bash call away from exfiltrating almost anything that's unlocked on your machine, or using your (auth'd) gh cli to steal your repo

Maybe this is part of why podcasts keep getting more and more popular. Listening is easier if you don't know how to read!
ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

Man, Schumer is so deeply unfit for the moment. Really good luck for the MAGA project of American authoritarian autocracy.

Caving now will teach Trump and Republicans that they can win any fight simply by threatening to cause terrible harm to regular people. no possible way that could have future adverse consequences

The right to public prayer is an animating belief for the right, and has been for decades. They’ll activate national resources because of a single preschool in Peoria. Watch as this disappears beneath the waves without a single tweet from Alliance Defending Freedom et al.

No it’s important to listen to this. Because then you understand that many of them will do ANYTHING to keep power. Remember Musk got involved in the 2024 election after saying to Tucker “if she wins” I am definitely going to prison.

So we need to move knowing that nothing is off the table for them.
Steve Bannon: If we lose the midterms and we lose 2028, some in this room are going to prison, myself included.

The main tenant of Shakira law (hips don’t lie) is incompatible with western civilization.
Zohran Mamdani carried out 9/11 when he was just 10 years old, and now he wants to introduce Shakira law in New York. It is a truly scary time x

I love that Mamdani is what the right claimed Obama was: A Muslim socialist born in Africa. The right practically manifested Mamdani into existence.

The most important lesson for Democrats from Mamdani's victory is this: abandon the decades-old practice of triangulating to win the center. Instead, grow the base with a positive, joyful vision for what government can do when it gives up on being shackled to a Republican base.

Traditional American politics is premised on the notion that sometimes you lose and sometimes you win and you have to deal with that.

But Trumpism is premised on the notion that any result where you don’t win is illegitimate, unlawful, fraud, criminal.

You can’t negotiate with people like that.
