SEATTLE!!!

We’ve now taken the lead by 91 votes! 🤯 This thing is certainly not over! Over 1,000 ballots have been challenged, so if you haven’t tracked your ballot yet get on it! Our trusty volunteers have been working hard to "cure" ballots so they count! We're so close!

This lot is for sale on Beacon Hill for $420k. To build a single family home, looking at a price tag over $1M all-in.

To build 7 3 bed/1168 sq ft stacked flats, looking at maybe half that per unit in part because the land costs just $60k per unit.

Op-Ed: Ferguson Must Back ‘Stand Up to Trump’ Rhetoric with Funding » The Urbanist

This stretch of Rainier is going to look totally unrecognizable in 25 years, I think.

There are so many institutions already anchoring the zone: schools, tennis centers, light rail, etc.

No reason you can’t build housing for 25k+ people here.

What I would give for the Mount Baker Lid to extend to the 12th Ave bridge with a continued linear park on top.

Imagine an urban Costco on the current Goodwill site on Dearborn. I think goodwill still plans to sell the site in the near future.
This breaks some people’s brains.

In most cities, Costco stores fuel sprawl & car dependency.

In Vancouver, our full-sized downtown Costco has residential towers above & a skytrain station next door. LOTS of customers don’t drive to it.

We live a block from it. We call it “the convenience store.”

Every Seattle map is the same.
Per-precinct Election Night data are now available for King County, Washington's general election. In the race for Seattle mayor, incumbent Bruce Harrell opened an 8000+ vote lead over Katie Wilson. #seaElex #waElex #seattle #SeaElection #electionViz #dataviz

I have a copy of the Images of Beacon Hill book that I bought online, and there’s an inscription in there from Roberto Maestas, which is pretty cool!

One of my strong takes for this election cycle is that with the Left dominating all over the map, this actually helps Trump in his efforts to consolidate power by showing Republicans that his dictatorial ends are the only way they can maintain power moving forward.

I'm less worried about today's drop and more worried about yesterday's since Wilson meaningfully underperformed her progressive peers.
Something to note here is that in the Seattle races, there was a lurch against progressives across this batch of votes counted.

My wife told me my shawarma guy isn’t really my friend, he’s just a captive audience when I go in to get a bite.

Tell her to take that back immediately. Thoughtcrime.

The leaves on Rainier Ave are making a pretty convincing argument that the center turn lanes don't get much use -- lots of excess road space that could be protected bike infrastructure.

Really interesting article and important history to remember.

I also find it interesting that we found a way to cut sales taxes to spur the construction of offices for tech, but we haven’t yet eliminated sales taxes for the construction of housing.

Here is the layout for my rowhouse. Been mulling over the idea of taking out the first floor bathroom and replacing it with storage - either kitchen or otherwise (there’s a shared bathroom available on the 2nd floor). Thoughts?

That’s Washington House Rep Michael Baumgartner who supports the fascist lie to strip birthright citizenship from millions.

He’s an eager fascist and we should never forget it.
The following members of the House and Senate think that -- as a legal matter -- the longstanding accepted view that the 14th Amendment confers citizenship to anyone born in the US (with minor exceptions) is wrong:

A friend just asked me about the Seattle Mayor race and said “I’m not sure about Katie Wilson because she refused to answer a question regarding homeless encampments in parks” and it was a great opportunity to share The Stranger article she wrote in January answering that very question.
Where the Left Went Wrong on Homelessness
Reclaiming this issue could mean reclaiming power for the progressive left.

The death of Halloween in America is pretty sad. The most neighborly, high-trust holiday we had is a shadow of its former self.
