#OTD Nov. 30 1908 the Root-Takahira Agreement was signed, one of many preventative steps to avoiding war between the U.S and Japan. Both agreed to maintain the status quo in the Pacific in addition to Japan honoring the open door in China and America acknowledging Japanese mastery in Manchuria.

Raising kids in Japan means you get a lot of Momotaro; he’s impossible to avoid. Since the states can’t have anything nice, of course a statue of him was stolen from Okayama’s sister city, San Jose. Good news is, you can go to Japan and see the OG.

The government has said that the remains of five Ainu people will be returned from the Natural History Museum in Britain to Japan.
