3 months ago I resigned as a Director of IT because I couldn't persuade my org against GenAI use and I stand by it.

GenAI/LLMs are powerful tech but
-They don't work as marketed
-Destroy critical thinking
-Easy to manipulate
-Immense cost
-Main models run by evil companies

After witnessing Operation Midway Blitz and the impact it had on Chicagoland, I traveled to Charlotte to observe Operation Charlotte's Web. I love my country, and that includes all of it.

Here are some of my observations and what you can expect if this comes to your city.
Deep Dish Thoughts After experiencing Operation Midway Blitz firsthand, I felt compelled to travel to Charlotte and observe Operation Charlotte’s Web. Here are some observations: I spent the first morning visiting Latino businesses, seeing familiar sights from Chicago: stores closed or near empty, doors locked even when open, people standing guard in front. A store owner giving a news interview, describing the fears his staff and customers were facing. I spoke to several employees, all said the same thing: few customers were coming in. I stopped at 3 places for lunch before I found a Colombian place open. The following day, I saw on the news that people had been chased past one of these restaurants. Later, I visited a grocery store where DHS had chased someone through nearby apartments. Tensions were high, with a couple staff standing guard outside while most staff huddled together inside. Then I saw something that has been burned into my mind: several men hiding in nearby woods with workers' clothes on. I made eye contact with one of them. There was a school across the street. Across Charlotte, I saw several small groups holding protests on the side of the road. One of those protests consisted of 2 high schoolers. Their school was going to hold a walk out that day but had postponed it. One of the teens told me, “You don’t tell me when to protest. It's happening now, so I’m here now”. One morning, I got stuck in traffic in a residential neighborhood. There was a local police car and someone filming down the road, so I pulled over to investigate and spoke to the man who was filming. He had been observing a DHS traffic stop when the DHS van broke down. They got into another vehicle and left the van, with a local cop now assisting a tow truck to get the street clear. There were school buses passing through this intersection. People need a story of hope, and I've seen the courageous acts of many, they're real. I've also seen the pain inflicted on besieged cities, the collective trauma they endure. Scars that will reverberate for generations. Chicago didn’t win and, despite the conclusion of Charlotte’s Web, neither did Charlotte. Both cities stood, as a single community, with courage, but both cities have endured an act of betrayal, which now moves to a new city. As long as DHS continues to violate 1st and 4th amendment rights anywhere, they are violating those rights everywhere. I believe there is a bright future for the country I love and call home, but I also know that we need to remain vigilant. We need to continue the hard work, because we haven’t won. Not yet.
