Later, I visited a grocery store where DHS had chased someone through nearby apartments. Tensions were high, with a couple staff standing guard outside while most staff huddled together inside. Then I saw something that has been burned into my mind: several men hiding in nearby woods with workers' clothes on. I made eye contact with one of them. There was a school across the street. Across Charlotte, I saw several small groups holding protests on the side of the road. One of those protests consisted of 2 high schoolers. Their school was going to hold a walk out that day but had postponed it. One of the teens told me, “You don’t tell me when to protest. It's happening now, so I’m here now”. One morning, I got stuck in traffic in a residential neighborhood. There was a local police car and someone filming down the road, so I pulled over to investigate and spoke to the man who was filming.
