This timeline is a hell of a way to give The History Channel fresh Nazi Documentary content in 30 years.
Ah, the joy of binging a show I didn't watch 23 years ago even though I wanted to... Just started The Wire.

2002 I must have not had HBO, then when I moved to the UK there wasn't the steaming services like they have now.

I'm on E.4 of S.1. Can already tell it's going to break my heart.

Booked my tickets for a bunch of Folkestone Book Festival sessions in Nov.

Really looking forward to seeing so many writers but especially @joannechocolat.bsky.social & @jonathanfreedland.bsky.social

Was so nice knowing I could go to what I want without negotiating my time with a day job!

Many of the most accurate descriptions of American politics can be found in the comments on Balloon Juice. This one, from commenter Davis X. Machina (from about 15 years ago), is particularly apt today.

The White House has ordered the US Dept. of Justice to prioritize denaturalization: voiding the citizenship of US citizens.

Who will it denaturalize? "Any" case that it "determines to be sufficiently important".

Point 10 leaves the criteria opaque and arbitrary.

Bob Dylan wrote Masters of War, wishing death on the warmongers who send young men to do their killing and dying. On the one hand, it's a powerful song. On the other hand, Kissinger lived to 100, so thanks for nothing, Bob.

Watching The 1975 at Glastonbury. Never hooked into them so thought I would give them a try but I really just can't find the groove in, & Healy is rubbing my fur the wrong way.

Frankly, I'm fucking bored.

Maybe it's because I'm old.

(But I really don't think that's the crux of the matter.)

I feel slightly guilty that I am projecting forward to being holiday happy with no thoughts of being crispy from nuclear fallout, but I just spent nearly 500£ on new bras, a takini bathing suit, caftan, and two sundresses.

Overhearing two young women discussing books and one is sharing a book she just read, and as she described the ending, I realized she was talking about 100 Years of Solitude. My heart feels full.

In the middle of a good olde fashioned thunder & lightening storm avec rain (natch) which makes me happy. Now I don't need to water the garden in the morning, and I love the rolling crackle and flash of light.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

Tells me everything I need to know about you.

Trump was yucking it up at last night’s UFC fight while escalating the situation in LA—putting residents and cops at risk from his safe space. If it’s serious enough to call in the National Guard, a real leader would’ve stayed at the White House. He’s just playing politics.

If you’re in Los Angeles right now, make smart decisions and keep yourself safe. Trump and his people are clearly thirsty to escalate this situation—they’re practically giddy about it all over social media. Just be careful, because they want violence.

Earlier today ICE agents hit someone with a car and tear gassed a neighborhood, sparking several fires and disrupting businesses.

Immigrants, by contrast, did not.
ICE is a much greater threat to this country than illegal immigrants. The current administration ia by far the greatest threat this country faces. The problem is not st our borders. It is in the White House.

"Hmm."

"And then we go to war with California."
