Do top engineers and scientists own mathematics education?

I don't believe so.

In this new post, I challenge the assumptions behind the media campaign late last year declaring that Australian education is experiencing a "maths crisis".

“Australia collects more money from students, nurses & teachers than from Petroleum Resources Rent Tax (PRRT) – tax on super-profits of oil & gas cos.

Finished up my first session with participants for my PhD project (it was a great session!) and you know what I did?

Tested out the Nintendo 64 and the games I found on the side of the road earlier in the week.

Yes you heard me right.

In a box, on hard rubbish.

It’s been a good day 😁

Can you believe that in my 10 years of teaching mathematics I have never been to the annual The Mathematical Association of Victoria Conference?

Well, this year is different and I'm so excited to be attending the MAV24 conference at La Trobe University🥳

Hope to see you there!

How cool is this?!

Last week I had an opportunity to meet up with renowned Wurundjeri (Melbourne) based graphic artist Sarah Firth to chat about my current research project, which she then put into visual form as you see below.

1. Gathering a community of practice of Australian teachers to critically reflect on educational ideologies and its impact on their work.

2. Layout’s theory of the “displacement of the laboratory”.
Bluesky academics, let's get to know each other! Quote this & tell me: 1) a project you are working on & 2) an odd idea/theory you aren’t working on but keep thinking about

1) How to "hack" public interest documents using digital tools (Australian Hansard atm).
2) Neoliberalism isn't real anymore.
