What I took away from this is that once people see your tactic win they realize another way is possible. The game doesn't end when you're off the board. It ends when the cake is distributed. And by leveraging non-cake incentives you can motivate those who otherwise wouldn't be helping you to help.

The Noah’s and Samantha’s of the world live in a sad tiny intellectual space where Enlightenment precepts about humans and our world are the only ones available for us to live by and the good news is that the universe of human possibility is so much bigger than what they imagine.

The thing that keeps getting me about all the pieces fretting about Bluesky being too insular is that the argument seems to be that those of us who are most likely to be abused by the right (BIPOC people, trans people, queer people, etc) must put up with being abused for the sake of public discourse

So. It isn't enough to self-host your own PDS. Whether or not people can run their own relays/appviews/etc actually matters *a lot* if we want this stuff to survive.

So, can we? How hard is it to run your own AppView/Relay/etc?

For this reason @blaine.bsky.social says of both ActivityPub done right and Bluesky done right, "they're the same picture" (The Office meme goes here, yes)

To a large degree, I think @blaine.bsky.social is right
