Standing outside the gates of the Qu'Appelle Indian residential school. This a haunted dark place. A 5-year-old taken through these gates had a lower chance of survival than a Canadian soldier fighting in WW2.
The red dress and the orange shirt hang on the gates.

Two ridings to watch: Carleton where, with 235 of 266 polls reporting, two candidates still have zero votes. And Souris-Moose Mountain, where a candidate who is currently in prison has received 155 votes (210/211 polls reporting).

Here's a link to the final project videos created by my second year design class. This class created a scale model of a system to deliver food to a community whose road access had been washed out. I'm really proud of both their design solutions and also the quality of the videos. @usask.bsky.social

i feel compelled to remind everyone that chatgpt/LLMs are functionally the *opposite* of an actual expert.

the more your problems are unusual or novel, the more likely LLMS are to be wrong. they are least helpful when it's most important

“When I talk to people in the geothermal industry, it would be no exaggeration to say that 80 or 90% of them are transplants from the oil and gas industry,” and the IEA estimated the 80% of the skills in geothermal jobs “can be directly copied and pasted over from oil and gas.”
Saskatoon-based DEEP Earth Energy Corp. is planning to produce what it terms “emissions-free baseload power” from Canada’s first next-generation geothermal project after announcing a strategic collaboration with SLB, the global oilfield services giant previously known as Schlumberger Ltd.

I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world.

This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵

I’m old enough to remember skeptics dismissing solar and wind, scoffing that battery storage would have to get below $100 per kWh before variable renewables could replace all fossil fuel power plants. BESS used to be over $500/kWh in 2008. Over $2,000/kWh in 2000.
That amazing battery price is turnkey:

‘design, manufacture, installation and 20-year O&M…tender document from November says that bidders need to have ‘battery cells, power conversion systems and EMS’

$66.30/kWh

Hey @elephanteating.bsky.social @jessedjenkins.com - what price needed for baseload?

EPC firm Power China's recent 16GWh BESS supply tender has seen very low prices bid, amidst a squeeze of market share from state-owned firms.

The working class needs to understand this— the climate crisis is going to make food expensive. The sky high prices now, are just the start— it will get worse. The rich don’t care if you can’t feed your family. They’ll still be eating steak, making money from fossil fuels, & exploiting our labour.
To be clear, the fight on climate isn't over whoever is in the White House or PM here. The climate crisis is only getting worse while the solutions are way cheaper & more accessible. The energy transition is inevitable - but speed & scale matters.

Everyone who cares just has to keep on fighting. 💪
