Palgrave has a recent Handbook of Global Slavery Throughout History which should be open access link.springer.com/book/10.1007... - have mostly used the sugar trade chapter but the book should do what you want

I began working in this space in 1986. The best literature available then was Kate Millett’s Sexual Politics (1969). A brilliant and evocative account of the structural power imbalance imposed on gendered relations. This text articulates the theory of patriarchy, which is still (sadly) useful today.
