Remake of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, set in present day:

SHERIFF BELL: I’m quittin’. I feel overmatched.

ELLIS: What you got ain’t nothin’ new. This country’s hard on people. You can’t stop what’s coming. It ain’t all waiting on you. That’s vanity.

BELL:

ELLIS: Just kidding, we’re fucked now lol
Got this at the Target Field team store pre-Pohlads keeping the team and pre-fire sale in anticipation of son’s birthday, which is today. He unwraps it, looks at it, and says, “Thanks, I guess.”

Serious question: if the Twins had a game at Target Field tonight, would they have been able to pull this shit? Saints are in Toledo. How would they have been able to have anything close to a full roster?

This should be every Pohlad’s epitaph

Hard to become the laughing stock in a division that features one team’s entire pitching staff going 1919 Black Sox, AND the entire roster of the current White Sox — but thank you, Pohlads and Derek Falvey, you did it. You really did it.

Tired: complaining about the NYT Spelling Bee changing puzzles in the middle of the day.

Wired: complaining that the new puzzle doesn’t recognize one of the types of hernias name-checked by Weird Al in “Living with a Hernia.”

Update?
I see none of you want to talk about how the Wolves are on pace to only allow 104 points tonight.

Julius Randle going the Sam Darnold route and playing so terribly in his last few games that it’s easy for fans to move on. Savvy veteran move.

Wow, so the Twins’ play DID get a manager fired after all
@JeffPassan tweeted
The Baltimore Orioles fired manager Brandon Hyde, sources told ESPN.

I don’t know if this counts as a hot take or not, but TRUE GRIT is top tier Coen Brothers, and might be better than their other, more acclaimed Western adaptation.

Thinking of this Kilgore Trout story from Slaughterhouse-Five today for no particular reason

I’m on spring break, so I’m just continuing to enjoy Russell Westbrook’s epic fuck-uppery on a loop on the post-game highlights.

Endless despair beaten back for now
Re-upping this because I can’t bear to lose all hope in FUCKING MARCH. Those 1969 Twins lost their first four games to shitty teams—two to the expansion Royals, and two to the Angels, both 90+ game losers that year. But an 0-5 start? That way only the 2016 team and endless despair lie.
I’m choosing to focus on the FIRST time the Twins started 0-3—1969, a year in which the Twins won 97 games and a division title, Rod Carew won his first batting title, Harmon Killebrew won MVP, and manager Billy Martin beat the shit out of eventual 20-game winner Dave Boswell at a bar in Detroit.

I, for one, never doubted my Minnesota Twins

Sorry Twins, didn’t find today’s pangram until after the game. That one’s on me.

Twins were swept by the Cardinals in St. Louis, starting a season 0-3 for the first time since 2016.

Twins are now 12-30 (.286) since the beginning of last season's collapse, which is their worst 42-game stretch since 2016.

For the sake of everyone's sanity, don't look up 2016.

“The Great Gatsby is dated and irrelevant.” You’re right. What could a novel about a generation of young men becoming hustlers and white nationalists because they were sold a lie about the American Dream possibly have to say about our current moment?

Watching CASABLANCA on TCM because it’s Valentine’s Day and I want to see a movie that’s about love and a dawning American resistance to Nazis.
