Morally bankrupt. This gutter scum is willing to throw the Ukrainian people under the Russian genocidal imperialist bus while his country profits from it.
Can there be a better demonstration of the EU's performative irrelevance? They spent weeks negotiating with each other the issuance of 90bn euro debt which the EU cannot afford that will do nothing to win the War and much to obstruct Peace. www.ft.com/content/e569...

"No shit Sherlock". Why don't more people understand this? It's pretty simple. The consequences of a Russian victory in Ukraine are many times worse than the cost of giving Ukraine the support required to win.
❗️Czech President Petr Pavel has warned the West against making any concessions to Russia in the war against Ukraine.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, he warned that a Putin victory would mean a defeat for democratic states. Pavel compared the current situation to 1938,

Burn in hell Rubio!
Secretary of State Marco Rubio says that if Ukraine takes the right steps, its GDP could surpass Russia’s within 10 years.

"They are literally fighting over a 30-50 km strip in Donetsk, roughly 20% of the region still under Ukrainian control and now a central issue in negotiations."

Zelenskyy's power of coercion over the Ukrainian people to force them to fight for him must truly be the stuff of legends. Or maybe the Ukrainian people have a deep desire for freedom and self determination. Have the tankies been lying to us? Just maybe?
Dmytro was born near Yevpatoria in Ukrainian Crimea. He lived for 10 years under Russian occupation and passed information about Russian troops to the Ukrainian special services.

Textbook definition of genocide. Just in case any of us care enough to actually do anything to help Ukraine.
“Russian President Vladimir Putin has underlined his true intentions by issuing a presidential decree calling for an escalation in efforts to eradicate all traces of Ukrainian identity from the approximately 20% of Ukraine currently under Kremlin control.”

Seriously? This is so manifestly inadequate it's like we are trying to insult the Ukrainian people. It should be an order of magnitude greater.

Australia - $50 million, New Zealand - $15 million. The funds could be combined with funds from another country or a combination of European countries.

My take: Trump still won't back Ukraine with decisive actions but wants to take the credit when they win with European support.
Some people have asked me about this — which I had to make sure was real — and I’ll say what I’ve said since 2016:

If POTUS wants to realize that being the savior of the free world is a much better gig than dealmaking with autocrats who hate America, I will cheer it.

Insightful (but much too short) look at the struggles of the Ukrainian army moving from a Soviet to a modern western style of command structure. Obviously still a long way to go but it does highlight the profound difference in performance it makes.
For New Lines Magazine: I spent a week and a half with Ukraine's elite Third Assault Brigade, the largest and one of the most effective fighting forces within the Ukrainian military, and not coincidently, one of the least 'Soviet'.

Ukraine should play Russia at their own game. Call these a threat to Ukraine and launch a preemptive Flamingo strike at them.
As part of the “Zapad-2025” drills, Russia has deployed Iskander missile launchers in the Kaliningrad region near the Polish border. 'Show of force' against NATO.

We are not supposed to believe either Russian lie. They want us to understand that they don't care what we think and that they have contempt for us.
❗️🇵🇱Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski: The Russian government suggests that Russian drones breached Poland’s airspace by mistake while the Russian UN ambassador claims it’s a physical impossibility for Russian drones to reach Poland.

Belgian FM Maxime Prévot said that confiscating frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine “is not an option for Belgium.” He warned it would undermine trust in the euro and damage the credibility of European financial services. Most of the €200B in frozen Russian funds are held in Belgium’s Euroclear.

Ukrainian civil resistance stories have a remarkable parallel with the London blitz. Likewise, I expect Ukraine's story to end in victory. Despite the intense pain and suffering they are enduring, the Ukrainian people are also showing the indomitable resilience and community spirit of victory.
Remember that coffee shop Russian drone attacked in Zaporizhzhia? This is a a local, Svitlana, ordering a cappuccino with cinnamon through window broken by Russian drone attack - while helping to clean up broken glass . And the coffee shop? They continued serving coffee just little later.

This is the bit that so many in the West are determined to avoid. The longer we bury our heads in the sand about the threat of authoritarian regimes (looking at you, Russia and
China), the more expensive in lives, destruction and dollars it will become. The cheapest time to fix the problem is now.
And at this rate, it will come for you too. Unexpected and surrially cruel. And you’ll know you could have prevented it by supporting us
when it mattered.

When you strip away all the propaganda, this is the root cause of the Russian genocidal invasion of Ukraine. The hot war may have begun in 2014, but Putin was putting in place the political moves required as early as 2003. Even as Ukraine was being stripped of its defences by empty Western words.
It’s not about a president.
It’s about a country
That dares to exist
Without asking russia’s permission.

Standing up to the authoritarian wave requires more than cheerleading for democracy; it demands making democratic societies more participatory, responsive, and adaptable at all levels, from local to national, in response to the societal shifts driven by the Internet over the past 15 years.
