Look, I get it, AI is bad and shouldn't be used to steal art or float through education. I'm with you. But can we stop telling people em dashes are an AI-exclusive punctuation? I use those when I handwrite in my journals, ffs. I'm an insufferable grammar nerd with oxford comma opinions, not AI

A 1974 study from Purdue University asked 10th-12th graders their feelings about book bans and lo and behold, those who opposed censorship got better grades, read more, and had stronger vocabularies than their peers.

(Psst: it's the same today because this IS about intellectual access)

As someone who called herself a swiftie until recent...*events*, the main issue with the Fate of Ophelia isn't that the lyrics are inane (they are!) but that it shows a fundamental misunderstanding of Hamlet and THAT I cannot abide from someone who presents themselves as well-read.

I've spent my whole life with doctors telling me it's all in my head and implying I'm just a whiner. For the first time ever a doctor just told me "you don't seem like a complainer" and that probably shouldn't mean as much as it does but holy hell was that validating

It’s the same old same old. Republicans do a tantrum and break the dishes. The Democrats clean it up. It’s an abusive relationship.

This Congress is the oldest in US history. We need to stop electing people who won't have to live long enough to see the consequences. Also probably should elect people that can read the statements prepared for them. Or, you know, comprehend questions asked of them. Or that have empathy. And so on

Read every word & share with everyone you know. This is real life here in Chicago. Americans need to know this grotesque reality & stand with us.
Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Why don't women report? Even with evidence and the worst trauma, men aren't punished. We are. The mom heard one assault and left, they were both recorded, one girl almost died. Apart from a record this asshole has no real punishment. It's on VIDEO, these girls SCREAMING for help. And yet, nothing.

It's wild that I'm lucky to have a husband that is aware he doesn't know more about having a uterus than he, a non-uterus haver, does. And yet. (Context: I sent a video in which a man told his girlfriend PMS isn't real and she handled it far more rationally than I would have)

They're just walking in and shooting pets now. Fuck these racist losers. That dog and his humans did nothing wrong, and still he ended up murdered in front of his family. There is little to be gained via civility at this point.

This morning I learned about the Nazi's Madagascar plan for European Jews, which perhaps I am late to. History was never my best subject; numbers and laws don't have feelings and that has a certain amount of appeal. BUT it is an important historical context to present day deportations.
