Civil defense should be a locally sourced, volunteer militia, not "law enforcement". Patrolling "cops" should be first responders and investigative reporters, not a dedicated "paramilitary". Things get a lot more humane when you're not treating "criminals" like an invading army.

This is, unironically, why I think Adult Swim is the most important thing in western animation.
Every few years there's a new Adult Swim show that gets an obsessive online fanbase raving about how hilarious it is, then I look into it and find the most hideous animation ever conceived, like I can't even judge any other aspect of the show because looking at it makes me physically ill.

Hey, not saying anybody should, but how do we have one of the most hated administrations in history randomly imprisoning people and ripping out every power check against them and yet it's the university that gets shot up and a popular film writer that gets assassinated in his home?

We library folk do a good job talking about all the free services we offer, but I don’t see many of us talking about how libraries are one or the only places where you can use services without being advertised to.
