Tax sales could become profitable as new developers come in and buy the parcels only to sit on the land and let it go back to a tax sale for not paying their own taxes. Bend over backwards to streamline the development and construction process. Chicago has a dedicated person to my project there.

OR- if possible instead (or in combination) tack on an additional fee for corporations holding residential land/homes for rent or vacant who are nor headquartered/based in the city.

@caraspencer.bsky.social - how about an “under-developed land tax” for landholders who retain over 3 acres combined in vacant and/or derelict parcels across the city. Exceptions to be made on appeal/waiver only such as “actively living or headquartered in the city limits”
