does this sound like a deal that’s done or someone trying to pressure dems into one

Isn’t all this talk about the courts and SNAP just kicking the can down the road? Even if Trump has to use all the emergency funding, THAT will run dry in less than a month

That none of the Senators who caved are up next year doesn’t prove that the whole caucus secretly conspired to get this outcome and foist it on those who could not be held accountable. (Democrats are not known for their secret conspiracy abilities.) It proves that no one disciplined by facing…

Reminder: the vast majority of elected Dems held strong. We can throw the bums who didn’t out.

I mean Dems have the luxury of their votes not mattering there, right? Republicans can jam through a party line vote with no filibuster.
not only does he have to go, but i think he has to go soon, because the reconciliation fight is going to be much, much nastier than this one was and it is going to be much, much harder to win.
Chuck gotta go. Regardless of your views on shutdown (I’m still pro but I’ve gotten a little more ambivalent as I read more on it), he did this the worst way possible. Ride into the sunset ASAP buddy.

Most of the party did their job! It’s one guy in the House and nine in the senate who need a booting hard enough to turn their behind into a crater.

Probably saved four Senate seats and a dozen or more House seats, while avoiding the embarrassment of a 55-41 blowout where Trump flips New Jersey
not to be that guy but how did that work out for us?
remember what happened to the last old guy who Nancy decided had to go

I called Markey and Warren to thank them for being no and to demand that they remove Schumer if he doesn’t walk this back. I then called Schumer to inform him that I had done this.

My nana is on Medicare, my mother-in-law-to-be is on Medicaid. I know we’re headed for some major pain if there’s a shutdown. But I think we’re headed for a crisis regardless. Whether it’s a shutdown in 2027 when Dems control the House, or the government screeching to a halt because millions…
i will say this — if you don't know people on medicaid or SNAP or medicare or SSI, then i absolutely don't give a single fuck about your opinion on shutdown, and if you *do*, then you should not be enthusiastic about it. it may be the right thing to do (it is), but it is not without heavy cost.

I support blocking the CR. I think it's the better move. I am not at all confident of that. Reasonable people can disagree.

I am confident that a leader shouldn't come out supporting it *after* a majority of his caucus declared against it.

left/accommodate in the broader political sphere are leftists who said voting didn’t matter in 2024, there won’t be elections in the future anyway, etc. and more or less define themselves in opposition to the party.

That’s a strong assertion with no proof. Things could easily go the other way, getting even worse for Republicans - like literally every shutdown in history prior to this point, including the one when Trump was President.

I’m not convinced the “Dems are secretly caving” thing was ever true. Dems pretty much never lose budget battles.

Henry George mentioned!
There's a "house that Jack built" problem to tariffs. Tariff US aluminum, and you raise the price of US aircraft. Tariff US aircraft, and you raise the operating costs of US-based airliners. Tariff US-based airliners, and .... you get the idea. This is why Henry George wrote:

Figured as much because the House is easier to whip than the Senate, but Seth Moulton’s Salem office just said that they believe he’s a NO on the CR, although they need to double check

If a Democratic administration seriously pushes YIMBYism at the national level, will polarization improve the standing of YIMBYs among Dems at the local and state level like we’ve seen with tariffs, or will the suburbs shift catastrophically right to numbers not seen since HW?

I know a woman who said in one day

-It’s a shame Biden had to leave the race
-Harris can’t win, she’s a woman
-She could vote for Vance at the top of the ticket (fortunately she knows he’s gone over to the dark side now)
-She can’t believe that guy missed
when that guy took a potshot at Trump over the summer I heard low-engagement, offline, normie libs saying things not even the most hardened insurrectionary Maoist would dare say out loud, it was *wild*
If you ever try talking politics with a politically disengaged person, it's like some kind of postmodern French surrealism shit. You feel like you're on drugs.

Ngl sometimes when people are all “do something!!!” and no proposed course of action satisfies them, I suspect they want an unprintable solution

I’m imagining a world where Republicans condemn a Democratic President by comparing him unfavorably to JFK, and the Twitter brigade comes out and is all like “JFK destroyed this country, how dare you use him as a rhetorical device!”

For no reason in particular of course

To be clear, not only is this stupid, but it’s blatantly unconstitutional. The Constitution bans export taxes.

“No Tax or Duty shall be laid on Articles exported from any State.”
