He’s already a no

Worth noting Moulton wasn’t on board even in March, and has tacked substantially left since his comments on trans people in sports

Ofc he’s trying to primary Markey but it’s good when politicians can recognize which way the wind is blowing
November 9, 2025 at 11:34 PM
They didn’t even get that in March, when Trump was much more popular and rumor has it that the majority secretly wanted to cave all along
November 9, 2025 at 11:10 PM
Time to purge the Cuomingtan
November 9, 2025 at 11:03 PM
We know Fetterman, CCM, and King are already votes to cave. Consistently strong reporting that both NH Senators want to cave. That gets you to 57. It’s hard to see where the next three votes come from, though.
November 9, 2025 at 11:02 PM
Hm, you might need a friendly SCOTUS to make this compatible with Article V. Might it not be easier to turn the Senate into a powerless House of Lords?
November 9, 2025 at 10:48 PM
Representative, I tend to agree with you, but even in a future where Democrats win huge majorities, it will be basically impossible to abolish the Senate or change its structure because it requires unanimity. What can be done to mitigate this in the near to middle future?
November 9, 2025 at 10:37 PM
Gallego was one of the reported caves so this is a welcome development
November 9, 2025 at 10:35 PM
Well the Constitution says that Congress meets on January 3rd every year unless they pass a law setting a different date, which they can’t do if the House isn’t in session
November 9, 2025 at 10:05 PM
Why not? It’s similar to the one they already passed

Johnson ofc would have to summon the House but it has to meet in January anyways so Thune might make him bite the bullet
November 9, 2025 at 9:56 PM
But the House has to come back in January anyways. Forcing a vote two months early can’t be the only win.
November 9, 2025 at 9:51 PM
Trump effectively won the 2019 shutdown. It hurt him, and Democrats got to say they didn’t vote for a wall, but Trump stole the money for the wall anyways.
November 9, 2025 at 9:40 PM
Literally every House Democrat except Golden voted against caving in both March and September.

The fact that the Senate cave caucus is mostly made of retirees who will be replaced by House Ds, nearly all of whom entered politics much deeper into the Republican descent into insanity, bodes well
November 9, 2025 at 9:38 PM
Plus the House CR expires next Friday and anything after that requires a new House vote to approve

1% of me wonders if this is a Schumer plan to force an Epstein vote
November 9, 2025 at 9:36 PM
It would, because the rumored deal funds the government to January 30th, and the CR the House passed in September expires next Friday.
November 9, 2025 at 9:35 PM
Primarying Sinema *was* enough to scare her away, once she realized an independent run would make Gallego’s margin bigger

And Manchin was infinitely better than what came after him but it wasn’t Dem pressure that made him retire
November 9, 2025 at 9:29 PM
But Pappas himself is in the House and, like every other House Democrat besides Golden, has been consistently anti-cave
November 9, 2025 at 8:54 PM
Hassan is up in 2028
November 9, 2025 at 8:53 PM
The problem is that leadership has no leverage over retiring Senators and Senators who, by virtue of holding a front line seat, are effectively immune to primary challenge. If eight Senators are determined to cave, there’s only so much leadership can do.
November 9, 2025 at 8:53 PM
The last bit is true but it seems like Schumer trying to square an impossible circle
November 9, 2025 at 8:51 PM
This doesn’t appear to be his doing FWIW
November 9, 2025 at 8:49 PM
-Republicans propose

-Democrats want an off ramp

-If it passes

This story has more holes than Swiss Cheese
November 9, 2025 at 8:32 PM
King is immune because he’s not actually a Democrat so he can’t be primaried
November 9, 2025 at 8:13 PM
It’s also not clear that Schumer lied. It’s quite possible he thought he had enough votes to stop a bill and then didn’t, and so had to reverse position to avoid publicly losing control of his caucus.
