Little Microshift, my beloved! Mixing it on a send with the dry vocal creates a subtle stereo widening effect that sounds so damn good!

I am realizing I have mixing amnesia where I just can't recall what I did in a previous mix despite having memories of sitting down and yelling at a resonant frequency for hours on end.
I should use a template to mix because building a mix from scratch is starting to get annoying.

Letting a reverb and delay blend with the vocals is a hard task for me. Mostly because if it's too wet it muddies up my mix and if it's too dry, it feels sterile and boring. I'm going to experiment by putting all verbs and delays on a processed return send back to my vocal bus.

I have now mastered a song without Izotope Ozone's help (Except for imager I can't live without that). It's still confusing, but I at least learned how to use that API-2500 that's been haunting my plugins.

My new favorite Desser is Renaissance DeEsser because it's so visually pleasing and shows me exactly what I'm doing so I can easily dial in a DeEsser. That and it's a good at removing harsh highs from my vocalists.

When doing sound design, I now realize the importance of using food groups for mix organization, because what I have now is an absolute mess.

I mixed a song for a cover project. This song really taught me saturation and how to blend it with the vocals. I experimented with the chorus effect to achieve a "Larger than Life" sound. Though compressors, reverb, and delay are still hard to understand.

I think I'll use more Analog Style EQs in the future. I really like the visual limitations and the colors they can give. It really makes me listen to the sound with my ears rather than my eyes. Still, FabFilter will still be my favorite EQ for cleaning up all the dialogue and vocals I process.

So I learned that there is a mic technique where you to get really uncomfortably close to the mic. Like 3-6 inches. I'm going test this technique and see if I can make those crispy vocals.
