Sometimes I feel like I get too much pleasure from maintaining a glossary for my #worldbuilding 😅. After working on this for several years, I spent a good chunk of my Friday evening writing up the order for the annotations I have before the definition of a word. So accomplished 😌

Abbey Amongst the Oak Trees

Cites (and towns, and villages) are for people, not for cars. Any inconveniences of infrastructure and land-use that don't prioritize personal vehicles is worth it, and I will gladly pay it.
Madison is pro-people, not anti-car
Just because you want to conveniently drive without traffic doesn't make it solid policy

Monk by the Sea
Deep within the dying year, a man stood deep in thought before the cold, black sea. The wind strengthened as the day weakened, carrying the salty sea air over the shores in invisible surges. Capped…

That Moment, Small and Mundane
“Mother, I’ve decided what I want for my birthday,” Edelas said. The skies were gray, the air was chill, and the wind blustered. It was a respite from the oppressive summer heat, a present for all …

Another item for my wish list!

I've read The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, and I have in my library The Riddle Master of Hed and Heir of Sea and Fire, all of which are in their first editions with their lovely old-school art. I'm glad this collection pays homage to that art. McKillip is great too 😁

Across so many aspects of our lives, it is clear to me that we need to support smaller, and shall I say, more communal, organizations, ones that better respect our humanity. For books, here is a way forward.
wrote an article for @thebookseller.com outlining to the industry why small presses are the lifeforce & future of book production. Pls share esp w people who may not know what small press publishers do!

Don’t invest in AI, invest in the future of the book

What happens when two machines love each other? And what does that mean legally? "The Flaming Embusen" has some answers, and a healthy dose of social commentary.

Thank you @tadethompson.bsky.social !

I saw Predator: Badlands this weekend, and it was awesome. It pleased me to see a film trusting its audience enough to dedicate its whole opening to showing the Youtja culture AND have everyone talk in an alien language the whole time. That was very satisfying.

After a few different attempts over the years to write my own #poetry, particularly with meter (respect to modern poets to don't use meter, but I personally like the more old-fashioned stuff), I tried copying some poems and writing scansions of them. It was a lot of fun!

Author Rachael K. Jones is known for writing stories that are so knife-sharp that you cut yourself when you pick them up. Her story "Five Functions of Your Binosaur," from Issue 4, is a gentler story, though still bittersweet.
Five Functions of Your Bionosaur - Small Wonders
The bionosaur was a baby shower gift from your mom's favorite aunt. They were nervous about its size, the stainless steel maw, the retractable razorclaws inside its stubby little arms, but the aunt had insisted.
