If you're creating/managing/using an open-source software that is (even remotely) used for game development, please please never rely on any package manager.

Your future self that will have to patch a game 5 years after its release and porting companies will thank you.

This is real. You can assume that 100% of shipped games have a placeholder that slipped in.

That's how things go. Games take years to make, as vigilant as you're trying to be, people forgot, shit happens, and things backfire. Been there, done that.

GenAI sure makes this more probable to happen.
Any dev with enough experience knows that placeholder can always make it to release, that's why we use bring pink, the dumbest names possible, or ninja monkeys for mobs. If it looks remotely shippable, it WILL be shipped.

Epic Mobile iOS players of ScourgeBringer:

We are aware of a recent bug that makes the touch UI to disappear.

This seems related to iOS 26 when you have a gamepad paired (even though it is turned off).

Unpairing or turning it on and off seems to fix it for good.

Cheers!

I once had a Ubisoft game not working on my PC, so I called the customer service, and they sent me back a burnt CD-R labelled with tippex that contained a patched version of the game.
Probably should have saved this for Random Game Saturday, but it's too cool not to share. This is a legit copy of King of Dragon Pass. When the designer ran out of printed copies and you ordered one from them, they burned you a copy and mailed it.

Also: I'm still looking for an original CD of "Creid" that is not sold by an Amazon grifter or a bootleg.

(Same goes for the Xenoblade Trinity box, and the F-Zero "Guitar Arrange" CD. All those are my game soundtrack grails.)

I am free.

Not a timeless game, but I had fun in moment when I needed a game to dissociate on.

I don't know how familiar people are with Masayoshi (he's one of the lesser known billionaires), but when he starts rug-pulling on a segment, it's usually a prelude to the end.
Japanese giant SoftBank said Tuesday it has sold its entire stake in tech giant Nvidia for $5.83 billion.

Perks of having your game editor directly integrated into the game itself: I'm likely to be the unbeatable "player" with the largest play time.

Today, 12 years after quitting my cognitive science position to go make games, I've mentioned the "Fitts' law" in a gamedev context for the first time.

That PhD wasn't entirely useless (but still not worth the trauma).

Condemned remasters up ahead? I really enjoyed those games back then and am still kind of sad that we never got to see the conclusion of the story.

Also, the biggest jump scare in game history to me.
Condemned: Criminal Origins has been delisted from digital storefronts, making the game unavailable, for as yet unknown reasons.

The fun thing with uninstalling Chrome, is that it asks you to fill a survey for feedback, except that there is no link and the survey actually doesn't exist.
