we really do need to figure out how this guy managed to create an environment where he can say "i wasted an amount of taxpayer dollars so large I can't even tell you how much it was" & it doesn't cause immediate national outrage
Trump on the Oval Office: "You see the way this is looking. I can't tell you how much that gold costs. A lot of money. This beautiful office needed it."

Listen to Pete.
A different way of practicing politics is possible - where we vigorously fight for what’s right while inviting people into our coalition, rather than pushing them away.

I await the inevitable "reconciling fandom with unpleasant truths" video essay with great trepidation.

Everyone needs to think harder about how to drive attention to this giant Medicaid cut bill Republicans are on the verge of passing — it’s very unpopular, all factions of Democrats oppose it, and yet it’s barely present in the discourse.

people get mad at me when I say this but it's a Serious Problem for bluesky's long-term viability that the userbase actively tries to bully people they don't like off here
The problem is that Bluesky is still a niche platform at 1.3 Mil active users per day globally. Getting your boss to say yes to making an account and dedicating the time and effort to maintaining it means they need to see positives for that investment. A middle finger isn’t a good return.

The conservative movement has turned against reality on every scientific issue of our time, from gun violence to climate change to epidemiology.

If campuses are ideologically homogenous, it's not because academia has ostracized conservatives. It's because conservatives have ostracized academia.

<Jace Audio> "You've already lost, you just don't know it."
<My opponent> Ha, that's where you're wrong! <Surrenders on the spot>

I've never been a big Gundam guy: closest I've come are a few eps of G Gundam and Super Robot Wars 30. Maybe it's just because I'm in a good mood today, but the new Gundam series is really vibing with me though.

Confession: I assume every deck with a given card as a commander is run by the same player. "You should know how this interaction works, you saw it in the last match!" No Tom, that was probably someone completely different.

The new ugin feels like it's going to either be banned, or get hit with the Alchemy bat, in MTGA. Maybe it's just me, but I just built an Ugin brawl deck and it's not that it's a strong deck or anything (though it's definitely overperforming expectations) so much that it's just very hard to answer.

Starting to get suspicious. They kept playing despite my insane board setup. But they surrendered the *instant* I drew Jace here-the only thing that would stop me from decking out, before I even realized I'd drawn him!

Probably just selection bias but sometimes feels like people can read my hand.

I'm sure opinions will vary, but for me, the worst games of MTG are the ones where both I and my opponent are consistently missing early game land drops.

So just a reminder: As tarrifs cause price increases on things directly affected by them, ALL products are likely to see price increases. Because all products include labor, and the cost of labor is the cost of living, and that is going up up up!

Well, I figure I could have at least ONE social media account I use ... but first thing I see logging on in months is the endless string of political nonsense that drove me off in the first place, so I guess the trick is unfollowing the stuff related to that, and following interesting stuff.

I think it's terrible how the people driving around with "liberal hunting license" bumper stickers were made to fear for their lives due to political violence

Well I'm given to understand that today & for a VERY limited time, our nation's political violence party is shocked—shocked!—to learn that we currently live in a world of normalized political violence, and would like very much to know who is to blame.

Please don’t “both sides” the “violent political rhetoric” conversation when one side regularly glorifies and intimidates with guns and the other side speaks out to end gun violence.

These are not the same.

I should also note that if Biden steps down as candidate and Harris runs, if she wins, she'd be the first female president, which would be kinda cool too.

The problem with the internet is that somewhere down the line, we all decided "questioning people's motivations is a perfect substitute for their argument actually being wrong, because there are too many disingenuous people making middling arguments in bad faith."
