And, to some extent, you're trying to create a culture where people don't "fall off the wagon" in the first place. People might start out reasonable, but if they're persuaded by the wrong people, they get indoctrinated into the cultish thinking.

You're not trying to convince the crazies, you're trying to convince the people who are barely paying attention but occasionally listen to the crazies because the out of context clips they hear are more persuasive if there's a lot of supporting evidence.

From a purely utilitarian standpoint, you'd have to kill someone who, by virtue of killing them, you prevent more deaths than you cause.
