The Oregon Coast is one of my favorite places on the planet. The video of people who should've known better dynamiting a whale carcass only makes it more special.
50 years ago, today, a whale exploded on an Oregon beach. 20 years later, before social media or video sharing sights or smartphones, it would become the first viral Internet video.

We sent it to each other in the mail.

The History of Exploding Whales Is the History of the Internet Itself

My first whale video came in the form of a VHS tape mailed to me by a stranger from the internet.

Wireless VR is my favorite form of cardio and I have been waiting for a great wireless VR headset that isn’t tied to Meta. LET’S GO!
Steam Frame, Steam Controller, Steam Machine announcement is expected soon, here's a first look!

Not only is this a requirement for good teaching, it’s a requirement for being a good manager.

Both require you to learn about and adapt to the people you’re working with.
There is no one right way to learn, and the only wrong way is to actively refuse to learn.

Good teaching requires that the teacher internalize that, and work to accommodate as wide a range of learning styles as is reasonably possible.

Ppl need to understand what's happening here.

The GOP response to the shutdown was: You're gonna cave, or we're going to hurt vulnerable people by shutting off SNAP. The Dems, unwilling to let that happen, caved.

Having watched that, the GOP is now saying: "Give us what we want on abortion or ..."

The Bond thing is utterly ridiculous.

In the SECOND Casino Royale, we see James Bond, not a double-0 yet, kill his first target as a newly minted assassin, then killing the traitorous head of an MI6 station for his second kill, making him a new double-0.

They reboot and rehash things constantly.

Dan knows more about how Congress works than anyone I know, so this is an interesting thread.
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

We're officially live. It's incredibly important to have a real record of how our public servants are behaving and this database will be a powerful tool for researchers, reporters, and ordinary Americans.

BSG: Deadlock and all the DLC is only $49.42 plus tax. I haven't played it yet but the reviews are solid and I'm both a strategy game nerd and a BSG nerd so it feels like a slam dunk.
November 10, 2025 at 9:15 PM
If you don’t already own BSG: Deadlock head straight to GOG. The base game is 70% off and all the DLC is 50% off.
🚨Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock (2017) is delisted🚨

Starting November 15, this game and all its DLCs will no longer be available for purchase on any platform!!

Please don's miss it, it's a great BSG game - and a nice tactical.

Retopology is probably not the proper starting place for learning Blender but here I am. Does anyone have a tutorial they'd recommend?
The 3D scanning to 3D printing pipeline is far more complex than I'd expected. It looks like I'm learning Blender whether I want to or not in order to make scans into usable .stl files.

It is cold, pouring rain, and the power is flickering. It’s casserole time! Specifically, baked mac-and-cheese with cream cheese/bacon/jalapeño sausage.
