I updated my website today with a fresh roundup of resources for thinking about and talking about the nuances of #AI in education, including articles, podcasts, and useful lines for the classroom.

Enjoy and share with others who may find it useful! #EduSkyAI

Always great when I get to call a student I knew as an eighth-grader a new colleague in my building 👏🏻

Sometimes you need to wrap up a book club with one more thing: Lego sculptures.

Themes, text panels, #makewriting, discussion, gallery walk and @legoeducation.bsky.social

Good times!

This is so true!!!
Each time I share the personalities of AI and give the survey, these are the results. In general, this means that your department or work group likely brings a variety of perspectives. Listen, validate, and learn from one another. We can all be AI Optimists while honoring our lenses.

Finished this beast, and it's as good as they say. Nineteenth century London, in book form. #Booksky

Today we hosted a guest speaker who once attended our high school, Mike Beck, who spoke about his high school experiences and the skills that students will need beyond graduation. Such a gift when community members volunteer their time like this to share their wisdom 👏🏻 Thank you Mike!

We can add some emotional value to almost anything we teach, which helps memory and learning.

We are learning about semicolons, colons, and ellipses.

My tenth graders wrote thank you cards to a teacher of their choice, incorporating each of these.

✅gratitude

It brings me a lot of joy to feel inspired by a poem, to create and teach a lesson, to share that lesson, and then see someone like Marcus adapt and mold it to an entirely new objective.

Let's keep sharing here on #EduSky #TeachersofBluesky!
Reason #192391 that I continue to love connecting with other teachers here:

1️⃣ found a poem activity from @thevogelman.bsky.social
2️⃣ had students to read/annotate/discuss
3️⃣ then asked them to write their own "ingredients" poem
4️⃣ each student shared one line to create our "classroom ingredients"

I invited seniors to write poems using terms from their thesis research today (inspired by lessons ideas in Poetry Pauses by @thevogelman.bsky.social ). This led to, among other things, the joyful hour-long pursuit of similes based in computer jargon (e.g. "as basic as plain text"). Win 👍🏻

This week I got to see Blackwater Pond, the one Mary Oliver loved and wrote about often. No joke, a friendly fox watched us the whole time and it made me want to write poetry 🦊

Last week, we were discussing, in 11, how English teachers are “merchants of doom,” leaning on the heavy material because it gives us more to explore.

And here’s Vogelsinger sending this one out for us to take a break from that!

It's a series of tiny lessons, easy to integrate, that get students contemplating and writing about hope.

The first poem? Emily Dickinson, of course, with a twist you may not have tried before.
