Last week, we were discussing, in 11, how English teachers are “merchants of doom,” leaning on the heavy material because it gives us more to explore.

And here’s Vogelsinger sending this one out for us to take a break from that!
🌱All week on Moving Writers: Poetry Pauses for Hope.
It's a series of tiny lessons, easy to integrate, that get students contemplating and writing about hope.

The first poem? Emily Dickinson, of course, with a twist you may not have tried before.

English Teacher hive mind: I’m about to start prepping to teach Daniel Kraus’ Whalefall.

Anybody tackled this one yet? Any insights? (I haven’t done much of a search yet to see what’s out there. It’s been a minute since I tackled a fresh book without a ton of resources)

I am last week of classes in June teacher tired, and have been looking forward to this all day.

One of my favourite comic runs was Peter David’s Aquaman. A fantastic writer.

Saw Sinners tonight.

I love, love, love when a movie “reads” like a novel. The ol’ English TeacherBrain was tickled at all the threads to pull at.

@ericvespe.bsky.social I fell behind on yer pods in the back half of the winter. As I catch up, I have to thank you for the Larry Hama episode. Such a neat look into some formative childhood lore!

Do I have a spider stamp solely for marking one assignment?

Not explicitly, as there are two assignments, but…

As I put the final touches on my latest Moving Writers post, I realized that this week is the first time I’ll be in the same room as another MW contributor. @triciaebarvia.bsky.social and I are both at the Adolescent Lit Summit!

My current tiny joy is withholding the next title that we’re doing in Lit class until we start the book next week.

A couple of them want to know what it is so badly that they’ve insisted I tell them a book that it isn’t each day.

For years, I’ve been making my kids sit through geeky things I like. My oldest is always game.

In return, I’m now being dragged into the anime world, cuz she loves it.

Had to put my book down to avoid the fact that I think one of my fave authors is gonna kill a character I really like.

Finally watched Heretic. I’m totally here for the character actor era of Hugh Grant.

A dystopia loving dad and his musical loving daughter finally sat down to watch O’dessa tonight.

Killer songs, and lots of great visuals… just a little bit too much going on. 100% a vehicle for Sadie Sink though.

I’m so glad I was too busy to watch Yellowjackets until tonight, because I now have less time to wait until the next episode.

That ending!!!!!!!

I often do my own thing when we’re out shopping as a family. Found a graphic t sale, bought each of us one… buying my youngest the same shirt she was wearing was pretty funny.

I have a little under an hour before I have to take my kid to a dance performance, and I just dropped into my cozy reading chair, got settled, and realized one book is on the other side of the room, the other upstairs. Le sigh.

A little early insight into tomorrow’s Moving Writers piece… I can’t seem to write the word ekphrastic without spelling it with an x instead of a k.

A colleague asked me if so could find an activity we had developed together.

It took some digging, but I found it. A folder I kind of forgot about.

And that folder was full of other stuff we’d developed, & I’d forgotten about.

The bookmail today was very much on brand.

(I’ve been filling in a couple holes in my poetry reading lately.)
