Voracious reader and nature lover. Huge proponent of libraries and PBS. I’ve never met a bug or any other animal I didn’t like, and Oscar the Grouch is my hero.

If I had the gift of sight, I would
Open up my mind's eye.
There might be a #vision
Something to follow, a path,
A way to go to find
The love you said was mine
For the taking.

If I had the tools to change, I would
Be someone I am not now.
Maybe that is enough
To be someone's yes.

🗣️ FOLKS! This little goober is a mainstay on #AwesomeBirds this time of year. You can hear his song echoing all throughout northern forests. But he can be hard to find!

I live with division
and cannot envision
escaping the grasp of direct supervision
you laugh with derision
and make no provision
for breaking the binding with one clean incision
so I made my decision
embracing my #vision
of stopping it all
with a
shout

A highlight from today’s walk at Onteora Lake in the Catskills with @pbrand.bsky.social and @tomaskay.bsky.social was this Eastern Copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix), one of the few venomous snakes in New York. They are very well camouflaged and tend not to move, so are hard to spot.

Gorgeous #cosmos is a planter at my stepfather’s new apartment. A bright spot on a dreary day.

honestly I think teenagers are so inundated with messages like "you're difficult" "you're a nightmare" "you're unpleasant. you're unwanted. you're a public menace. you're annoying and frustrating and a drain on your parents" that it can do WONDERS for us to just say "hey. I like you. you're okay"

So, as a basic point of consent:

Person A's desire to have a conversation is not more important than person B's desire to NOT have a conversation.

There are times when one person's no is, indeed, more important than someone else's yes.
Unpopular opinion: I know it's cool to wear your earbuds and carry a book while pasting a disinterested, don't-talk-to-me expression on your face, but I like to talk to the person sitting beside me on airplanes. I liked it when we were willing to be inconvenienced by strangers.

My reading count has been dismal over the last few months. But, I am killing my college classes!!

Image from March stats. Yep, I’m late to the game.

last year @nobordersbooks.bsky.social sent 600+ books to Rikers; this year our book drive is for teens who are incarcerated in Brooklyn. please purchase a book if you can—most of these are requested titles, and a $7 Goosebumps book would mean A LOT to a kid in detention bookshop.org/wishlists/70...
