Writing on the intersections of race, gender, neurodiversity & trauma

Whitewashing the uncomfortable parts of the past doesn't just affect Black stories. For example, you can't fully appreciate how a peanut farmer from Plains, GA became a beloved president unless you know TRUE Black History.

The unwhitewashed history of Jimmy Carter:

A thread.

DEI or Affirmative have never been for Black ppl’s benefit. Or Asians. But they had to FAFO anyway.
The lawyer that represented Asian students who helped break Affirmative because they thought Black students were less qualified and shouldn't have gotten in. is now suing because Asian enrollment is down at select Ivy-league schools. Come to find out, it is white students who have always benefited.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Each year, the trans community loses too many lives, especially trans women of color, to hate and violence.

More than ever, we must stand by our trans family and support them, hold space for them, and insist the scapegoating and targeting stop.

Now.

Damn. Walked the kid to school this morning and completely missed my chance to get that cold weather chat in. I’m getting my British passport next month. I need to do better.
Me this morning: “bit nippy out here”
My neighbour: “yeah, it’s freezing, isn’t it?”

Cold weather ritual complete ✔️

Gonna live with this kind of energy now 💯
Imma need some of you to think about thriving out of spite. I had big plans for 2025 and I’m definitely not gonna pre-derail them for likes of Elin and Tromp. I’m getting more involved. Loving harder. Writing hornier. Having more fun. I’m gonna be so kind to my neighbors, bitch.

It’s wild how many yt ppl I‘ve met lately felt totally comfortable disclosing their neurodivergence to me (and I never asked). I can’t ever imagine doing that. I’ve even written a book abt adhd & I *still* wouldn’t tell them a thing.

To do that is a privilege they just don’t see.
November 19, 2024 at 2:31 PM
I have an appt later today, so I’ll basically do nothing until then 🫠 #adhd is fun like that.

Today I learned that depicting nature in art works from the lens of observing it (like landscape view) is rooted in colonialism. It teaches us to see ourselves as separate from the natural world rather than a part of it.

Such a subtle act but the message behind it is so detrimental.

Hey #writingcommunity is anyone in the UK looking for a regular writing partner? Could use someone to connect with during the week at a set times to write together.

Also crows. Lots of crows on my feed. And now raccoons.

I don’t even like raccoons.

Everyone’s cat pics are lovely but seriously, how do I change the algorithm? I’m afraid to like any cat pics for fear they’ll take over my entire feed.
