MAGA: "Ha ha ha ha! New York City just elected a socialist. We are going to turn Zohran Mamdani into the face of the Democratic Party, a bogeyman, and a weight around the necks of all Democrats! Stupid play, suckers!"

TRUMP: "Mamdani is wonderful. He's going to make a great mayor."

MAGA: "What???"

Once again, Scotland takes a step in the right direction, and the UK shoots it down.

‘the UK’s highest court ruled the approach taken by courts in Scotland, by restricting questions on a victim’s history, “risks depriving a defendant of their right to a fair trial”.’

I’ve been reading @carolecadwalla.bsky.social on Substack since she left #theobserver, and even without @carolvorders.bsky.social being profiled in the Q&A, I had decided to go for a paying subscription. Independent #WomenOwned news outlets are few and far between. bsky.app/profile/then...

I’m watching TV in the US. And I just saw an advert for schizophrenia medication. WTAF?! Ads for paracetamol or cough syrup I can cope with, but direct to consumer ads for mental health meds? No. Please make it stop.

Welfare U-turn makes spending decisions harder, UK minister says.

Why scapegoat the old, sick, poor, disabled?

Not taxing the rich is a political choice.

There is money for corporate welfare, crony contacts, foreign wars.

Since 2010 HMRC failed to collect £500bn of tax.

How many of these examples were “made in the USA” without input from foreigners though, I wonder.

As my 18 year old daughter says wearily of the tech bros, They're just trying to build god.
Sam Altman posted this essay in the last hour. I’m someone who believes AI is a genuinely transformative technology – at least the biggest since the internet.

But I read this and it just comes across as either delusional or a bizarre, fantastical sales pitch. I can’t work out which is worse.
