Newsom, like Starmer, believes in nothing, and turning on the trans community for an edge *when it's not even clear it will give you one* really answers any questions you might have about the accuracy of that statement

I don't have a lot of answers so I'll close with Snyder's advice. Do something, ANYTHING you can, to fight the normalization of fascism and help keep resistance alive. And that goes for people outside of America. History shows us fascism doesn't have much respect for borders.

The concern of course is recognizing all of this too late acting too slowly. Like with voting, economic responses can be too late. Will there even be another presidential election? And what if complicit businesses are given a monopoly over certain sectors, ending consumer choice?

Of course, if business will not stand up to fascism, consumers still have the power to stop it in its tracks by boycotting businesses who embrace it and making clear the intention to do so before this reordering of the economy even takes place.

Snyder argues CEOs must come out in against this form of "labour" now. But based on how American business leaders have backed Trump and his agenda so far, I suspect they will follow their Nazi era counterparts who never really faced punishment for collaborating.

Of course, the US Constitution under the 13th Amendment already allows for legalized slavery when a "crime" has been committed. It's how slavery moved from the fields to prisons.

To Snyder, the most likely scenario is that undocumented people are captured, imprisoned, and have their labour given back to the companies they had worked for "for free."
