Hi, #Scriptsky. I'm Peter Briggs: I sold my first spec to Fox in '92. I'm credited co-writer on the 2004 movie "Hellboy"; past 30 years I've been hired-by or sold specs to all the major studios.

My side hustle: I provide consultancy to emerging screenwriters serious about their craft. Links above!
Binged "The New Look", Apple's 10-part 2024 Christian Dior & Coco Chanel show from Todd A Kessler.

That's right up there with "A Gentleman In Moscow" as one of the best shows of the last few years. Beautifully shot, directed. Elegant wordplay that wowed me at times.

I hate Marvel Comics' swerve into anime-styling comics. If I see a Manga-style Marvel issue, I'll just immediately pass it by. Just the most boring art-style imaginable. Like Teflon art - my eyes just slide right off the page.

Got around to watching "Land Of Bad". Holy moley, SO much better than expected. First half basically the beginning of Predator (without a Predator), the rest...well, a compendium of every movie of its sort.

But it's well-written (too many "fucks"), directed, and photographed. Big surprise! #filmsky

If you're in London, you'll be familiar with the sight of communal Boris Bikes/Santander Cycles, and other communal-for-hire electric bikes left standing once they've been used.

Am I alone moving these things if they're blocking the middle of the pavement, or toppled forlornly over onto their side?

Can somebody please explain to me what this one expression of existential dread is that Jennifer Aniston seems to wear in every single scene of "The Morning Show"? I mean, it's certainly a choice. But...

Wait, whoah. How did I not know that Zohran Mamdani's mum is Mira Nair, movie director of films like the 2004 Reese Witherspoon "Vanity Fair"!? #filmsky

Ron Cobb -- who designed the Nostromo and most every thing that gave the human hardware tech of "Alien" its look -- did a cartoon just after the movie's release, that's a pretty good riposte to this.

Finally got around to watching "Kinds Of Kindness".

It's thrilling when you find a movie that rockets to the top of your "Best Of", of the year. Likewise, very gratifying when you don't have to struggle ranking a movie that goes in the other direction.

Like this one.

Fun fact. When I was writing the first "Hellboy" movie, there were twice as many monsters than appeared in the finished piece. It was far more ambitious.
someone reminded me that I wrote a short piece about Guillermo del Toro's movies once, so I decided to excavate it from the archives

Finally got around to watching "Challengers" from 2024. What a great movie. Great central performances from the trio, really unusual plotting, great dialog, so many odd little idiosyncratic direction and staging choices I thought were novel and made the film very different across the board. #filmsky

It's Friday, folks. Embrace your loved ones, pet the furry companions, ice up a cold one if that's your thing. Put on a movie. You deserve it. Above all, be glad you're not bitter and orange, and you have a life of happiness instead.

Scorsese did a list of his scariest films back in 2009 (I wonder if he's updated it since?). I'm sure all our choices would be different, but there's some fun films worth watching in there.

Liked the first "It: Welcome To Derry" episodes. Intrigued by Hallorann ("Shining", previous "It") in there, wondering if Project Arrowhead or the Tommyknockers spaceship's connected.

Feels like a more-entertaining version of "Stranger Things".

Good casting.

Watched "Good Boy", which deserves its plaudits. Efficient, well directed and as a dog owner I was stressed all through for Indy (the dog's) predicament. He was amazing. A really "Good Boy", and his performance and excellent direction and staging worked wonders.

Great and unusual idea for a movie.
