Watched "Frankenstein". Amazing costumes, suitably grisly prosthetics. I’d buy the "Art Of" book. Wish some of the performances were as naturalistic and grounded as Charles Dance and Lars Mikkelsen, and a bit less hammy.

Eight Andrew Lloyd Webber songs would have really elevated the operatic sets.

Binged "The New Look", Apple's 10-part 2024 Christian Dior & Coco Chanel show from Todd A Kessler.

That's right up there with "A Gentleman In Moscow" as one of the best shows of the last few years. Beautifully shot, directed. Elegant wordplay that wowed me at times.

On the whole...disappointed? Love the art, but the story's not grabbing me. It's inconsistent - some parts good, some not so.

However, the Absolute Batman Annual two weeks ago had an absolutely cracking Frank Miller-esque story that I thought was great.

The first time I heard "Bari Weiss", I thought it was either a play-on-gender quip for this guy, or the most Aryan Neo-Nazi name imaginable.

Woohoo!

The Wand Company added an online upgrade to the new Tricorder, which now adds the Medical Bay Screen. Follow the link for upgrade instructions.

Got around to watching "Land Of Bad". Holy moley, SO much better than expected. First half basically the beginning of Predator (without a Predator), the rest...well, a compendium of every movie of its sort.

But it's well-written (too many "fucks"), directed, and photographed. Big surprise! #filmsky

Reminds me of the creepy robot-guy from the French movie "BigBug".

Yeah. This was the very first Ron Cobb drawing I ever saw, published in (I think) the British Starburst magazine #8, when "Alien" was still in production. Young Me just stared in amazement at the 2001-ish "Realness" of his designs.

How about Cobb's illustration of the inside of the Close Encounters Mothership? (I should make a thread of these!)

Wait, whoah. How did I not know that Zohran Mamdani's mum is Mira Nair, movie director of films like the 2004 Reese Witherspoon "Vanity Fair"!? #filmsky

Have you seen Ron Cobb's design for his spacesuit for the ORIGINAL design of the Predator?
November 9, 2025 at 1:49 AM
Ron Cobb -- who designed the Nostromo and most every thing that gave the human hardware tech of "Alien" its look -- did a cartoon just after the movie's release, that's a pretty good riposte to this.

Finally got around to watching "Kinds Of Kindness".

It's thrilling when you find a movie that rockets to the top of your "Best Of", of the year. Likewise, very gratifying when you don't have to struggle ranking a movie that goes in the other direction.

Like this one.

I can't help but think I've seen this Predator Badlands gag before...

Finally got around to watching "Challengers" from 2024. What a great movie. Great central performances from the trio, really unusual plotting, great dialog, so many odd little idiosyncratic direction and staging choices I thought were novel and made the film very different across the board. #filmsky

Scorsese did a list of his scariest films back in 2009 (I wonder if he's updated it since?). I'm sure all our choices would be different, but there's some fun films worth watching in there.

Cole Escola's writing a Miss Piggy movie that Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence are producing.

I had to look up Cole Escola. I've never heard that name before today.

That latin phrase you used is one I know well from my childhood: it's in the "Jennings" series of books by Anthony Buckeridge.

Watched "Hedda".

Well...I like Imogen Poots in it? (Shrug)
